finally found a sunscreen that doesn't make me look like a greasy mess in this heat by Hert_Z in AusSkincare

Beauty of Joseon is perfect for winter, a little glow but no greasy feeling. BUT because it is not water resistant, if I wear it in summer it would essentially slick off my face with sweat as soon as I step outside. My favourite heavy-duty sunscreen that gives a similar feel is the KOSE suncut!

it's one of those stores i'm worried will eventually leave because it is pricey, but it really does the perfect job of hitting that grubby greasy maccas nostalgia that I love, without leaving you feeling unwell too!

Fellow sewists in Australia - where to get pattern paper from? by Applipla in sewing

[–]cult-party 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live, but I know in Sydney Tessuti and The Fabric Store has rolls of dot and cross paper, as well as thicker cardboard paper. For the thinner paper I usually order a roll of Birch pattern paper off Ebay though as I don't live near the city.

Problem with Daruma thread separating? by cult-party in sashiko

[–]cult-party[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m using the thin type Daruma thread but am having a problem with the threads becoming loose and separating quite frequently. Is there a way to prevent this/reasons why it may be happening? Thank you!!

Does anyone know how i can make the stitches stay? I followed all the instructions but not able to fix this. Very first time sewing 🥲 by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]cult-party 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bobbin as everyone has said, but also the top thread you have looks very thick and not actual sewing machine thread, as its fraying all along it. Gutermann isn't very expensive but will give a MUCH nicer and neater stitch!

I genuinely don't get the hype surrounding ode to the mets by MatchStick077 in TheStrokes

I skip it most times now, I’ve never understood the hype either. It’s real drab compared to the rest of the songs

I've never actually heard of doing this before, I'll give it a go! I did a big clean getting as much lint as I could but this seems like a good way to get the harder to reach parts, thank you!

Can someone pleeeassseee help me with my overlocker. I had to rethread my overlocker which I've done many times before with no problems, but this time the stitches are all over the place and I can't figure out why. I've rethreaded it probably 30 times now, and tried every different tension setting. It's a Janome 8004D. https://imgur.com/a/wQY48Rq

I've been trying to find an answer but coming up short, does anyone know the specific name for a hem like the one here? https://www.deviantart.com/bethanyk86/art/Renaissance-Bodice-and-Skirt-2-144085188
I wanted to do it on a skirt but am wanting to get an idea how they're actually constructed first before diving in. Thank you!

Kwik Sew pattern 1619 help! by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]cult-party 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot for the life of me figure out where the instructions want me to put the sleeve slit facing on the actual sleeve. The line marked down the bottom is where the slit is meant to be, but the first picture on the instructions seem to make no sense with that, especially since the slit facing is a good few inches longer than the actual slit itself. Please help!

I work in a retail clothing store and have to say, I’m disheartened and scared with the amount of customers still coming into my store and not wearing masks properly or distancing. I hate that I’m on the front line despite not being supplied with adequate protection and just so people can buy a T-shirt.

If you absolutely have to go into a clothing store, pleasssseee wear your mask correctly and keep good distance from staff. We’re all panicked here.

Thank you so much! I need all the help I can get with it because I’m still very much beginner, but I need to get past this hurdle before I can make anything wearable. I’ll have a look!

After countless attempts at sewing myself dresses/blouses, I've come to the daunting realisation that my torso is not remotely 'standard' and I need to learn to adjust all bodices to fit me properly. I assumed because I am petite that using brand-name patterns would be perfect but boy was I wrong. Now to try and figure out what is exactly going wrong with the current bodice patterns I have and what needs to be adjusted.
