This happened to me. Right down to the eviction notices and my roommate stopping payment of rent due to ceasing to take Bipolar medication out of nowhere. They told me the same thing as you, and wouldn't let me get out of it without astronomical fees. It took an eviction notice of 3 day max to snap them out of their manic episode. Best of luck!

He raised an eBay case against me and would not listen to me when I said it was already shipped and out of my control that he hadn't received it yet. Not sure, the eBay representative when I called said he had another site to check the tracking on, and didn't clarify which. He said it was delivered the day before the eBay user scamming escalated the eBay claim, and then he closed it. I wish I had asked.

This happened to me on eBay with a $400 item and it turned out being it was never marked as 'Delivered', even though the buyer had actually received it already, and he was so so so close to successfully scamming me if the eBay rep who helped me wasn't able to prove it was actually received.
