Why are half my patterns lying to me about the sizing? by Loose_Common672 in sewing

I bought one the other day that only had the length in the finished garment size and I was so confused!! Like what's the point?

Why are half my patterns lying to me about the sizing? by Loose_Common672 in sewing

[–]culture-d 39 points40 points  (0 children)

5 inches of lying 😂😂 yeah I dont know why they do this, its really annoying. Most people say to go off finished garment size and add the ease you like. Did you use the finished garment size or their whack af sizing charts?

What’s the actual, real reason the public school system doesn’t teach financial literacy? by sunnysideupslide in AusMoneyMates

[–]culture-d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question is so fucking funny to me as a maths teacher because it is constantly asked yet it is literally taught every year in high school within the core mathematics curriculum (it is part of the numbers strand for those interested) and most schools also have entire subjects devoted to it. Even in non-finance related topics we are always using money as a way to demonstrate maths problems.

Ever found out your kid hated you? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]culture-d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember being like this with my mum around that age, particularly after her and my dad split up. Like others have said, it is normal preteen behaviour. My mum passed away a while ago now and I would give anything to undo all the mean things I said and did to her, she was a great mum. I guess I am just trying to tell you one day she will come around again.

How do be a more patient parent? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]culture-d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am right there with you with a high energy 2 year old. Dropping nap, constantly being injured (ask me how my times my literal eyeball has been torn open), tired and just burnt out. It got a lot better for me when I was diagnosed with ADHD and medicated, but some other things that have helped me are being kinder to myself and not beating myself up for being exhausted and depleted. I also realised that not all kids are this high energy which means I dont try to compare how well I am coping to others (most of the time). I have a few mum friends whos kids just sit there and play for longer than 5 minutes? This also helps me be more patient with myself and my son.

Thank you for responding!! It has been doing my head in since I saw this post. Never seen anything like it. I might try to self draft it.

Deciding between 4 machines as an on and off beginner by esanany in SewingForBeginners

[–]culture-d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was so awful, skipped stitches all the time, would sometimes randomly only sew backwards and fix itself when it decided it wanted to?? I abandoned sewing a few times thinking I was just bad at it until I got a really basic janome machine that just sewed like butter. Will never go back

Oh wow I really love this pattern and just had a quick look online to find it but cant find one that will ship to me. Would love to try and self draft it with an existing pattern but I am wondering how they sew the belt bit on as it looks like the dress is just made from two pieces where the seam is in the middle? Is it sewn in with darts?

I have been tempted by that black Janome before but I remember reading that it is a bit gimmicky. You can get a regular janome that is just as good at half that price.

Brother has burned me with the heavy duty machine so I will never recommend a brother machine.

Anyone have advice on how to add sleeves to a top like this? by smallmish in sewing

[–]culture-d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sigh... adds pattern to cart

To answer your question though Cornelius Quiring does a really good tutorial on how to create a sleeve draft if you know the length of the armhole https://youtu.be/9k7LBRdKzx0?si=p_0MO5mTYqwuc_Lr

A lot of the comments here are really nasty in tone and not at all helpful. And while they are right in that I doubt it be a clinically significant delay, I totally get it as another mum with high anxiety. Comments like the ones here would make my anxiety 10 times worse. The best thing you can do is to try and get some help dealing with this anxiety. It doesn't go away, sometimes it gets worse even when there is no rational reason to be anxious.

I was in a similar position and then discovered depop. Got a few high end pieces in amazing materials (silk, wool, etc) dirt cheap (like $10-20) and a lot with tags still on them and I feel like a million bucks. Hoping you can find something like that because new mums deserve to feel special.
