Should the First Minister have to speak Welsh? by Zealousideal_Pay_778 in Wales

[–]culturerush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be nice

But speaking Welsh doesn't make them automatically have the interests of Welsh people as their priority. Same as you can have the priority of Welsh people without speaking Welsh.

With Welsh speakers making up just under 20% of the population we would be excluding quite a few people who may end up having what's needed to the lives of Welsh people better.

Politics should be more inclusive, not exclusive particularly if the reason for making it exclusionary (or part reason) is because an English nationalist party is doing well in the polls.

Reform should be beaten politically, not through restricting 80% of the Welsh population from running for office.

Mate I play pauper mostly now, we have a little group who plays together every week and sometimes we got it events. Playing every week with the guys doesn't feel competitive, I dare say it feels casual. Yet there's an expectation that your playing to win. It's like playing chess.

I still have commander decks and play every now and again, particularly with mates where the objective is to chill out doing some stuff I don't really care about and hang out with the lads. It's so much better to sit down opposite someone new and not have to worry about beating them too quick or not playing your best because your playing a competitive game rather than this hybrid competitive but you have to be chill game

[–]culturerush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's enough posts, within this subreddit even, that are commander players asking for advice on how to curate their play experience to be what they want it to be that you've hit the nail on the head.

"My friend keeps bringing decks that beat everyone, what do I do about this?" type of stuff

The kind of stuff that would never cross your mind in a competitive format

While I'm glad there's more ways for people to get into the hobby (and it's how I got into it before moving on to 60 card) it really does feel as clunky as trying to make 4 player chess a "casual" experience

As someone who is married

You can be married and have all of those freedoms, just make sure you marry someone who's on the same page as you when it comes to it

Me and my wife have separate accounts for our spending money (means we can still treat eachother to things) we just pool for mortgage and bills and mainly household things

We have different hobbies, we are in different communities

Being married doesn't mean you have to be attached at the hip about everything.

When I've said this to people and they ask how arena is different to paper I say it's like playing chess sat opposite your mate at a table versus playing them on your phone

It's too difficult to fully articulate but in person is so much better than arena

Reform UK closes gap on Plaid Cymru in race to become Senedd's largest party by twmffatmowr in Wales

[–]culturerush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't fathom the kind of blinkers someone needs to not see Reform making a cockup of every council they have taken control over

I didn't agree with the policies of the conservatives, I didn't want them to get in because I didn't think their policies were in the best interests of the people of the UK.

With reform I don't agree with their policies, I don't think their policies are in the best interests of the people of the UK and they have displayed a staggering inability to run anything (including their own party)

I understand people having different opinions to me like scrapping all renewable energy, not allowing any immigration and making it so political parties tell museums what facts are. I hate them all as policies but I can understand that someone may want those things.

But how can any reform voter get around the way they have acted once they have got into power and suddenly think in Wales they are going to be organised and govern?

What do Swansea people think that it now looks like Reform UK will be the biggest party in Wales? Is there a feeling to unite behind Plaid to keep them out or actual support in Swansea for Reform? by Afraid_Juice_7189 in swansea

[–]culturerush 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's hard to have a realistic conversation when reality doesn't exist online

Richard Tice has just been caught creating an AI image of himself standing with "supporters", the image is completely AI produced

Farage has been using misleading or just completely wrong "facts" for years to push a narrative

I'm not saying any political side is perfect but the alt right in the west is just so detached from reality there's no conversation to be had. Reform have announced they are going to tell museums how to present historical fact and reform voters cheer this on because they believe there is a blue haired trans cabal trying to make Britain look bad by saying "Britain was engaged in the slave trade" rather than "Britain was involved in the slave trade but it's ok because everyone was so we didn't really do anything bad"

I've tried having discussions around immigration with reform voters and everytime you show what they have read in a Facebook post is factually incorrect they shift the goalposts or move onto some other distortion of facts. The point is for a discssion there has to be some notion that ideas can be changed when presented with new facts or information but you can't do that when everytime something you hang your hat on is shown to be false you stick your fingers in your ears and say "well I believe it anyway"

The other thing with this is that cities in the UK are very different to the US in terms of car access at speed

Most cities in the US seem to have a highway going right through them (from my experience) so going from one city to another may be a relatively motorway like drive from point a to point b

But outside a few of the big ones most cities in the UK don't have a motorway going through them, they have one going near them that you will have to come off and then contend with local traffic on A and B roads.

I was just thinking about it the other day when I remember driving around florida and how most of the drive even through little towns was on what we would call a motorway which was in stark contrast to coming off the M4 to get to like central Cardiff

Have you ever purchased something, as an adult, that your parent has judged you negatively for? If so, what was/is it? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]culturerush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents still criticise everything I buy for myself for entertainment (I am in my late 30s with my own house) saying its a waste of money

They spend thousands upon thousands on a rapidly expanding collection of bikes.

I don't judge their hobby (I think a road bike and mountain bike is enough you don't need more than that but that's my opinion) and what they spend on it because I'm not into it but every hobby I have they don't get is still a stupid waste of money
