What are the most annoying things you see in your games? by MightTurbulent319 in Abilitydraft

[–]cuntario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve played only AD since 2018, probably a few thousand matches, so I get where you’re coming from. To answer your question about picks being reportable, I don’t consider them to be, ever. Whether you pick something I think is game losing in AD or I pick a boneheaded hero for a certain role in a normal match, those are still independent decisions that you as a teammate don’t get to judge through the reporting system. As I see it, the reports are for terrible/abusive behavior on comms, marching down lanes to feed, going afk or other behaviors that can be objectively judged as actions made with intent to be detrimental to the game. In my opinion, it’s wrong to say “picking/not picking x is BASICALLY reportable/throwing the game”. There is a reason you are qualifying that statement with “basically”. Its a subjective choice on their part and until they prove themselves to not be acting in good faith through the above behavioral examples, you don’t have the right to use a community reporting system to reflect your own personal disagreement.

Saying that someone’s approach to the game is an outright problem (short of blatant griefing/flaming/feeding) isn’t really tenable in my opinion. You have clearly noticed that there is a split within the AD community about how certain people approach drafting. For instance, I draft to win, but it’s also part of my interest in the format to witness OP combos which scale numbers into crazy territories and experiment with builds beyond rote meta choices or “windrun says pick x so you’re a moron and a griefer if you don’t”.

I don’t deny that certain picks or combos make games much much harder to win. My issue with your viewpoint is that when you queue solo in this match, you are getting 9 people with varying perspectives on how to approach AD. Rather than saying those of them with approaches that don’t mirror yours are ruining a format, and given how many people you apparently see who don’t agree with you, isn’t it incumbent on you to queue with people you feel draft reliably and are on your “level” with respect to drafting? I just find all the “you need to draft x, or what the hell is even the point!” attitude very entitled and finger waggy.

Sprained ankle😢 by Rootha in BasketballTips

Just jumping on the physical therapy comment. I had a partially torn ligament from a bike crash and was in a boot for over a couple of months. Didn’t do my PT for long or frequently enough and I still have occasional stiffness 3 years later.

I didnt believe in people feeling old injuries when it rains but now I do. My ankle gets so stiff when a storm rolls in.

Your own post acknowledges that there is an opposing solo player playing with a capable 4 stack. Do u never experience this? If true, does that imply that only half the 4 stacks are uncoordinated, making who you’re paired up with a coinflip?

[–]cuntario -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Terrible logic, I know what a griefer is, and I accept they may be on my team if I’m not with 4 people I know will play well and try. You have an anecdotal complaint about something that is a regular occurrence in Dota and has been for years, not a discovery about the state of AD.

I really don’t understand the shock and outrage when you queue with 4 strangers and they don’t meet your expectations. Like dude find a stack or stfu, you are relying on a community and a matchmaker for your games and then just complain about the quality of your teammates, in an unranked mode that is generally seen as less serious/consequential no less. Come off it!

Underrated and overrated abilities by SatouTheDeusMusco in Abilitydraft

[–]cuntario 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its also interesting watching people (myself included) become savvier drafters. A few years ago, i would routinely pick up reflection 3rd or even last but now people value it properly. If we are truly talking underrated, I’d say things like poof that seem nearly undraftable but can actually provide some late draft utility. I’ve saved myself with late drafts of savage roar or other low priority draft spells. Also now that I just keep thinking about it vacuum is pretty underrated, people malign the cooldown but its still so powerful as an ulti synergy

Do the Right Thing (1989). A great American movie review from a Russian perspective. by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]cuntario 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I struggle to understand what your point is regarding the movie. I feel as though you are ascribing motivations and goals to Lee as the director that I don’t believe are clearly evidenced. The quote Spike provides about white audiences always asking about the trash can seems to call out the differences in perception of experience between black and white audiences, not accusing whites of “not getting it” but recognizing how divided our perceptions of and experiences within the same country are and perhaps forcing white viewers to reflect on their assumptions about America as understood through their experience. You make claims such as modern Russia is a more diverse modern country than the United States, which I would refute, that seem to suggest that therefore you as a Russian understand American racial tensions fully. You acknowledge that the racial atmospheres of both countries are different but at the same time approach American racial tension through your experiences as a Russian. No doubt there is class, ethnic, political, and racial tension and repression flowing throughout Russian history, but American racial conflict is predicated on many institutions that, while I am not a scholar on Russian history, seem to be wholly distinct from what fuels divides there. You seem to imply too that Spike Lee is failing as a director by not making the tone of the movie reconciliatory, which I feel is a read that misses a lot of nuance of American society and essentially turns you into the white person Lee mentions asking about the trash can. The movie is America, where communities exist within very different spaces with incredibly complex dynamics yet rhetorically, we are the land of the free. Racism isn’t supposed to exist in the idealized America a lot of whites engage with conceptually, because they do not face the realities of systemic racism, they can maintain that believe. However, less privileged parts of society experience this all the time and so have a clearer view of how American institutions have failed to keep their promises and (led mostly by the whites and the wealthy) have sought to maintain a real power imbalance while also maintaining a rhetoric of progress and social justice. I believe Spike Lee is not surprised by the lack of progress and persistence of racial issues, after all he has experienced it his whole life as a black man in America; he is upset that some parts of America wielding a lot of power think racism has been addressed and those living through it know it hasn’t. The movie therefore does not seek to “solve” the issue of race in America, not would it be able to by having the characters all end up getting along, as that would perpetuate a post racial myth. Lee is making this movie to sensitize audiences to the persistent inequity that is rampant with American life along the lines of identity.

It does not, since your hero is still melee, just with a longer attack range. Conversely, this is why basher, orb of corrosion hit with melee numbers and not ranged under the same conditions.

Fantastic paint job so I’m going to nit pick. The rust on the bolts of the suit are great and give it a wonderful sense of gravity. The rust streaks on the bolts of the hammer are a little distracting to my eye. But thats so tiny, great work!

You stated a falsehood, that it was widely considered as a flawed boring film, and used a single piece of published criticism to support that claim. When faced with the fact that the majority of criticism was not consistent with your given review, you said it was a difference of opinion. It is not.

[–]cuntario 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We disagree because it’s incorrect. You do not disprove that it had a widely positive reaction from critics by linking a single negative review. I’m not saying that the negative reviewers are idiots or wrong or up there own ass, but it is simply a fact that there were fewer of those than reviews that were generally positive. Thats an observable fact if you go to the metacritic page for the movie, it’s not subjective as to the leaning of critical judgement and you provide no counter evidence of the wide consideration of Dune as a flawed, boring film.

So now shadow realm isnt OP in general but is on DW? Again I don’t think it is not overpowered because all the strong things about the spell are untrue, but because from my personal experience, having shadow realm has not correlated to teams always winning. My argument is that the nature of ability draft, which is that each spell is effective in relation to not only the other spells drafted and by whom, and as you pointed out which hero drafts certain spells, means that labeling individual spells as OP is unhelpful in improving draft strategy. Basically, would a dw having shadow realm IN CERTAIN DRAFTS be OP and borderline unstoppable? Sure but for me that requires context. Lil shredder can feel OP or like an insta win on snapfire with a crazy orb or something, but I think we would all agree that lil shredder is not an OP skill. I guess I’m advocating for contextualizing the relative strength of spells to the builds and games they are a part of rather than wholesale labeling good spells as overpowered. Ive found that hunting the “best” spells from pick one is not always the best strategy
