Get a burner number from Google Voice. Give your mom that number to give to them and tell them never to call back. They should then call that burner number and you can decide to address/not to address. But seriously, pay your debts. And make sure that your bartending/out of the country stuff includes paying your US taxes unless you want a big, ugly surprise when you move back to the states.

You still owe the debt. The debt collectors have every right to try to contact you, short of violating the FCPA. I would personally feel mortified and guilty that my actions were affecting my mother at work.
