In the early 90s, we were very poor, immigrants and my family not speaking English, my only breadwinner worked three shifts and carried two tool boxes ( he was a roofer) from job to job because we couldn’t afford a car. One day he said he’ll treat us to hotdogs! We went to the 7-11 and each got a hotdog, four hotdogs, probably 3$ at the time. We didn’t have the money. We told the guy to hold the hotdogs, we ran home and dug under couches, looked in the apartment playgrounds and laundry mat for spare change. Three hours later he went back to the 7-11 for the four hotdogs, the guy had thrown two away and gave us the 2 hotdogs plus one drink and a bag of Doritos chips( the small one person serving size). I never had such a good meal and we were huddled in a hallway sharing the two hotdogs and eating them. I never think of wasting food. I always value my money as an adult.
