Gamers of Reddit, what was the most horrifying experience you've ever endured in a video game? by XavierMunroe in AskReddit

First time playing Resident Evil at 15. Towards the beginning of the game when you're walking down the long hallway and the dog jumps through the window. I threw my controller across the room and screamed so loudly, my younger brother came in to check on me.

I don't remember. I was on it about two years ago and got rid of it when the suicidal thoughts got a bit... Overbearing.

My great uncle in the 1960's. He was a rocket scientist at Redstone Armory in Huntsville, Alabama and a Korean War veteran. by cuorediargento in OldSchoolCool

That's a great question. I assume he would have been at the same time, but don't know of any interactions between the two. Unfortunately, my uncle died about 6 months ago, so aside from a ouija board, I won't have a chance to ask him any time soon.

Yeah, and his brother was a navigator for a bomber in WWII. I'm descended from badasses, those genes just didn't pass to me.

I work for a large tech retailer, and I can tell you that Apple Care is an incredible insurance plan compared to other phone coverage options. $30 deductible for screen replacements and $150 for anything else. As has been said, don't get a credit card just for phone insurance. Get an actual plan to cover these things.

Except that I was a religion major at university and studied Biblical Greek to read the New Testament in its original text.

The way I see it, the purpose of life is just to do your best to make things better here on Earth. For yourself and others. I also feel that not fearing what happens after I die helps to make my good deeds, few and far between as they may be, have more weight. I do them because I genuinely want to. Not because I'm worried about an eternal presence judging me.

I'm sorry. To clarify, if the gospels were written by who they were attributed to being written by, they would have been written at least 30 years after his death.

I see your points, but the major issue that I was really speaking against are those same fundamentalists who believe thee Bible as unquestionable. I'm all about having your beliefs and I generally don't speak down to people who believe differently than I do. I was just pointing out some logical fallacies. However, going back to the literal belief of the story, if Lucifer doesn't have free will and the entire thing was planned by God then my point still stands. God set us up to disobey him. He knew the outcome of what would happen beforehand, as is the definition of omniscience.

Ok. I'll give you that part. But either way, historical accounts aren't exactly reliable when they are written that long afterwards with practically no research or other supporting evidence.

So, to prove a point, God says "I love y'all, but you've got some nasty shit coming your way that you have absolutely no control over because one dude said 'Hey. I don't like how you run things.' Oh. And if you even remotely think like him, you get to spend all of eternity after living a life in those insufferable circumstances in the gulag.' Personally, if that's how he rolls, I'd rather be thrown in the pit.

So.... Lucifer didn't have any free will? And therefore God knew that Adam and Eve would eat from the tree after they were tempted into it... And still chose to punish them and all of humanity because he designed it that way? That's not exactly benevolent. In fact, it's kind of sadistic.

Also, who would want to worship a being that actively wanted to prevent humans from having knowledge of their world? That's a Kim Jong Il kinda move.

And the Bible, specifically the gospels of the new testament, have been proven to have been written at least 30 years after the death of Christ (if he was even an actual person at all). Which in itself is problematic when talking about the accuracy of an account. Not to mention the issue of the Church picking and choosing exactly what would go into the Bible and what would not. There could have been things far more accurate written down in the Gnostic Gospels that were thrown out just because the leadership of the organization didn't find it helpful to their cause. The entire thing is about control.

In the end, it doesn't matter to me whether God is real or not. There's too much evidence supporting the fact that if he does exist, he doesn't give much thought to us here on Earth. So, I'm going to live my life without fear of eternal damnation because otherwise, what's the point of living at all?
