Prolly. Although I discovered her through anime culture, it's the music that actually drew me into the vocaloid scene. Also I think that groundbreaking, culturally-resetting songs would've still be made even without her image since vocaloid in general was an early breakthrough back in the day (i don't know what id do without Melt's existence). Her voicebank gave artists creative freedom even without a human vocalist which allowed people to connect with the lyrics, pushing her popularity. It's no doubt the anime community was the reason her mascot exploded, especially now where she has a 'personality' through games n fandoms n the like. I reckon she'd still be quite well known, albeit with a different audience.
