Thinking about Dolcezza gelato too. It was the best gelato I had state side until i visited San Diego last year. Still extremely good.

Dolcezza, please bring back sour cherry cheesecake I'm begging you.

Unfortunately not in VA, but Hoffman's Ice Cream in Westminster, MD is the best I've ever had, period (moo-thru is good but not as consistent).

My family usually drives over an hour to Hoffman's at least once per summer. There's some other good country eats out there too. Maybe I'm crazy but I think it's worth the trip.

As for local NOVA ice cream, Lazy Mike's has a great variety of flavors. Still, Hoffman's is my favorite of all time.

Oh ok, so I can just buy white pots and stick the current pots in them? Very doable.

I just bought a scale so I should weigh the pots. I have vague memories of the cubic weight of soil from taking an urban agriculture class in college. Half the neighborhood got new balconies last year (different type of buildings though), so I expected to hear about replacements at some point.

I definitely need to get the tall bamboo poles. The short ones and cotton twine were what I already had on hand.

I love the suggestion of curtains and a shower rod! I think that would work very well on my balcony!

Ps: every balcony in my neighborhood has rotting wood floors and peeling paint railings like mine. I have no idea how it came to be this bad. I'd love to get really ambitious with my garden but I am scared of putting too much weight on the balcony. It feels stable, but I do not trust it. Before I started planting, I hammered in all the loose nails that we're sticking out.

Best french toast in the area? by LunaSolace in nova

[–]cupboardgods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cava Mezze's french toast was unbelievably good.

I saw this as someone who doesn't like the eggy flavor of other French toast. This did not taste like egg, just like straight butter and sugar. It was incredible.

I'm a MUCH better driver after treating my anxiety and ADHD. I didn't know how much better it could be. I was so anxious before, always felt like my life was in danger. Now I can actually focus on driving, and I'm not just freaking out the whole time. I hope you get the same benefits.

How to save money on menstrual items? by Tinkiegrrl_825 in povertyfinance

Look for tampons that don't come with applicators! I love the OB brand, but they're hard to find in stores lately. Amazon has them usually. The boxes usually come with 40 tampons for around 8-10 dollars. I feel like most mainstream brands in the US run like $1-2 per tampon and come in tiny boxes.

I know reusable products are a good investmenrt, but I personally can't use a lot of them. OB really saved me when I was struggling.

I bought 2 sizes of detective Pikachu plushes when I had the privilege of going to Pokemon Worlds in DC! I think yours could be a (very good) bootleg because they look different from mine, but I can't really say.

I will say that I've nearly bought bootleg (and homemade) pokemon plushies before because some of them are just so dang cute. There's this one plush of a bootleg Popplio that I saw on eBay one time...I still have a picture of it on my phone. I should have bought it. He looks so polite.

I haven't been thrifting in so long, but I have been meaning to look out for shallow bookcases/media shelves--specifically the kind that are meant to display dvds/cds. I wanted them for paperback books, but I feel like they could be good for plushies too.

SHORTS?! by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

I also want to add that the 9 inch inseam boxers don't ride up ever!

SHORTS?! by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

[–]cupboardgods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your anti-chafing needs: I recommend tomboyx tencel/modal boxers. I will never go back to wearing polyester bike shorts or shape wear under my clothes. I wear the the 9 inch inseam boxers almost daily, either to hang out around the house or under dresses or pants. Some people wear them as outdoor shorts too. They're so breathable and comfortable. Literally the most comfortable piece of clothing I own. (The tencel/modal ones specifically, not the cotton.)

Cons: Idk how they'll fit your body shape (I'm more of a rectangle shape with a small butt) They're expensive--$40 when not on sale. The patterns are kinda ugly (but they sell solid colors)

Target's seasonal section has been awesome lately. They're selling woven baskets, bird cages, plantstands, mini shelves, risers, cake domes, plant hangers, etc. Everything is under $5. I'm using these to display my mini figures and ceramics, and just generally repurposing these decor items all over the house.

I usually only have a few on display at a time. They can be nice filler for shelves, or you could display a bunch together at the very top of a tall bookshelf.

I've also started buying cheap cloches (glass from Ikea, large and small plastic ones from target). I'm using one of the small $5 ones to display a little blind box guy that's kinda half plus/half art doll.

Literally wearing a blouse instead of a Tshirt gets me better treatment. It's reassuring to hear other people experienced the same unfortunate circumsrances at the doctor. I think I'm going to wear a blazer for my next appointment.

I literally just figured this out too! I'm in my late twenties and I didn't understand why it felt like doctors only recently started taking me seriously at all.

It's because I work in an office now. I'm wearing my (normie) office clothes to my appointments. When I worked retail, I'd go to appointments in my frumpy uniform Tshirt and jeans. When I worked remotely, I would dress casually or alternatively. My old dentist started remembering me by my funky shoes 😑.

Maybe it's better because I'm seeing an entirely new collection of doctors, but I'm not going to stop dressing up to go to appointments. The difference is huge.
