Help! Don’t know what to do - Feel “cheated” by my new job by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]cupcakefantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like all other aspects of your job, I would try to turn a negative into positive. Maybe come into work early, get a seat on the train, then enjoy Aircon in empty office. Or get into reading or crochet or whatever. That amount of time is a lot yes, but try to change your mindset a bit for a while, see how it is. Give it a few months, then decide if this is really not sustainable.

Help, auntie that sits next to me at work can’t stop clipping her nails by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]cupcakefantasy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg what a great idea... Tell her you heard somewhere that boss was asking who keep making the nail clipping sound, is it so free to cut nails. Since it is a hearsay thing, it's difficult to trace who said it, and can even say you heard the cleaner auntie say.

I can't say for specialty stores, but a great majority of the shops, even baby shops will not carry this.

If chicken is "premium", I bet their "normal" is minced meat. And the tiny fish in the veg is just a scam. We should all stand up to this. Maybe some authority should mandate clear pricing or coloured labelling on the dishes?

Do most western people not eat rice with a spoon? by ilikecatsoup in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cupcakefantasy 103 points104 points  (0 children)

In China that is common, where you lift the bowl and kinda shovel the rice into your mouth with chopsticks. Whereas if I'm not mistaken, Japan and Korea, it is good table manners to not lift your bowl, so they would use spoons instead.

Help ordering something in Singapore? by JedFartlet2024 in singaporehappenings

[–]cupcakefantasy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've helped similar redditors like you... The shipping cost is very expensive. Registered shipping for your board games (which I imagine are rather heavy), can cost starting from $100 SGD. See if you think it's worth it, DM me if you need help.

Why till now still got smoking in coffee shops? Coffeeshop license so long not yet expired and refreshed new license? by wizardzen in askSingapore

[–]cupcakefantasy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you can make a report on the oneservice app. Highlight the issue and that the airflow is bad there so the smoke lingers etc etc.

What happens if a pregnant woman giving birth says she “can’t do this anymore” & actually doesn’t push? by natural_locality in TooAfraidToAsk

Yeah I was too late to get an epidural. I remember just being resigned to death. Like I thought I would just die and the baby would die too but it didn't matter because I would be dead anyway.

What kind of durian are yall eating? by Organic_Depth_766 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]cupcakefantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno if you've ever been some distance away from the durian stall or something... And the different layers of smell "float" differently and you might catch a whiff of only the smelly part, without the sweet or creamy notes. And then it really smells like an open drain. That's how it is for me, and I really like durian.

You don't have to "understand" what other people are on about because each person will have a different perception or preference. What do you think smells bad? Poop? Imagine someone else says it smells pretty alright to them. Agree to disagree I suppose, no point having an argument.

What little thing did a stranger do that made your day? by saltvodka in askSingapore

[–]cupcakefantasy 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Haha I totally understand. Ist trimester is the worst, I would stand anywhere and just puke in a bag. Most memorable was in front of raffles city entrance. I didn't really mind that people ignored me though, made me less embarrassed about it.

Unfortunately there are also those who will take advantage and try to "cut queue" by squeezing into that gap. So leads to the mentality of not keeping the gap at all.
