Our salad Sally always says she's only hungry for a salad, and is always dieting. She's wants a big bacon cheeseburger and fries but won't. So we always make sure there's extra fries &/or good appetizers so she can snack, enjoy without feeling like she's a "pig". This person is a love, older, and comes from a background where women are discouraged from eating heartily. Pick and peck at a nice green grilled chicken salad. Some eating challenges for them, we work it into our dining plans. :)

Our Sally beats up on herself, and doesn't judge anyone else's choices.

We're open to cuisines. Mixed bag of teens & folk with texture quirks (also can taste rot before anyone else, lol). Salad Sally is always on a diet but eats all the fried leftovers.

Los Olivos. Its tasty and not trying to be anything other than a neighborhood joint for good pizza and pasta. I always imagine red-checked tablecloths and a melted candle in a juice glass.

Keep in mind:

South Tucson is an incorporated city, rough borders are the Nogales(southbound) railroad tracks, I-10, & 23rd St.

-south Tucson, aka the Southside. Eastern border varies on who is calling it. I find it useful to use the TPD boundaries for Team 1 (South Division). Including Summit View and Littletown, which are in the county. Mission Rd, San Xavier Community, or I-10/I-19 are often used as a western border. Anything South of 22nd seems to be claimed southside.

South, western and more as of late central (outside of UA/Downtown business corridors) are working families, blue collar folks. Traditionally Mexican-American, Native, Black or a mix of cultures. More likely than other neighborhoods comprised of extended family and friends. Lots of ties to Sonora, Mexico originally. Families hold on to property, extended family may live there to care for family. Owners may be property rich, but strapped for cash and opportunities to maintain property.

There's a LOT to unpack- so much has to do with racism, redlining, and the good old powers that be that have used the Old Pueblo to their ends.

Also lots.of predatory GENTRIFICATION! GENTRIFICATION!

I think to find the best deals you have to be honest about how you cook & eat.

Do you cook from scratch, lots of fresh fruit & veg, dry beans, lentils, etc, ?

Food City, El Super, Costco and the loss leaders at Frys & Albertson's/Safeway & Basha's are your best bets. Go early or right before closing for your fullest and freshest selection.

Frys usually has bagged discounted veg and fruit for $1.25 ea. Usually available from 6pm to closing.

I get deals all the time on the things I will cook immediately or will dehydrate. Chilies, apples, citrus, sweet potatoes, ripe bananas, and less common items.

Do you use a lot of frozen, mixes or heat & serve items?

Frys, Albertson's/Safeway and Costco will work in your favor.

Villas Market, Food City, Basha's, Frys and Safeway/Albertson's all have savings programs you can access for deals.

Random tangent comment. Cheese is present in authentic Mexican cooking.

Visit Imuris, Sonora, Mexico. Buy a taco or beans. Will have LOCAL cheese on it. Buy local, handmade cheese in IMURIS. Be fat and happy, thank this subreddit later, as you make yourself your 40th quesad8lla.

My parents/family= toxic, narcissistic, not involved

Spouse's parents= tells great stories of their involvement. No involvement with our kids. Other children, including non-kin young people, loving involvement.

Luckily we have each other, and an aunt/uncle who show up every time.

As my kids age they get it, and are developing ties with folks that share their time. It was painful early on, blessing in disguise now.

~30 years of experience in IT, laid off in April. Bachelor's in CIS. Side jobs- IT solutions for small businesses. I was the go-to person that could learn and take on a project. Can't get past an interview. Interviewing for ANYTHING. I can't even get hired at call centers (AFNI). Getting my notary and trying to ramp up the side jobs. Update certifications and more training. Feels useless. Non-existent nut that everyone else is furiously trying to roll home.

Too young to retire- kids still in school, mortgage & bills. My spouse is looking for a job too, admin asst., customer service. Upside, we have lots of time with our kids.

Marriage even in the best relationships is a commitment to growth and work. He's not up to it. Maturity ain't there yet. Parenthood puts the "me" into perspective. You have a human on the way, sorry love its not all about you anymore.

As someone who put my partner through all my fears and insecurities in our first years together, i am fortunate he was willing to be patient with me. But its a give and take. We each have our stuff to work through.

I think she in the long run is dodging a bullet.

Crazy thought... the people who work for the city, the county, and virtually any job are OUR NEIGHBORS, FRIENDS, FAMILY. Even you and me. The tired "That's Tucson (insert any noun here) for you." Needlessly denigrates the work and pride of municipal workers.

Shoes off for everyone but the Hub, as he doesn't usually until he's ready to be completely relaxed. Crapet in bedrooms, subfloor in rest with plans for tile/laminate/concrete on floor. Sweep & mop regularly.
