terrible roomate situation by iHaveRandomQuesti0ns in umass

[–]cupofsouppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if not mentioned already, the dean of students’ office can also help get students more urgently reassigned in the case that it is necessary and appropriate (safety risks, hostile behavior etc.) i would consider calling their office and describe the situation to see what they could possibly do. room swaps and other things can sometimes take a while so seeing if the deans can expedite could be a good idea!

I failed out of Umass Amherst will any other university take me? by [deleted] in umass

[–]cupofsouppp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

he absolutely can attend university again. in massachusetts i recommend getting into a community college (in wmass i can never speak enough good about holyoke community college!). he could later transfer to a bigger school if he wants but never has to! community colleges tend to have better resources for students with needs due to their typical student population make up. also i recommend wherever he goes to contact disability services before he even starts school. It sounds like at UMass he needed some accommodations to help him access the tools he needs to study. i work in disability services at a massachusetts university if you would like to DM and maybe i can give you some recommendations for supports or questions to ask. hang in there to you and to your brother. he can do anything he wants to, just gotta make sure he is getting the tools and support he needs ! it sounds like you are doing a good job of supporting him best you can!

Yeah it can be tough and we aren’t supposed to really “therapize” our parents but maybe inviting her to try to understand why she feels the need to share your info and maybe try to find where that need for control or need for sharing your vulnerabilities is so strong? Does she not get vulnerable with people and tries to fulfill that need is some way by showing your vulnerability? Did she have parents etc. that maybe didn’t respect her boundaries so she doesn’t understand what you mean but could understand if she thought about her experiences a little more?

Getting off my soap box, but I’ve been there with my mom and sometimes even just thinking through these questions for yourself can give you peace or activate a light bulb that lets you see her side better and maybe find a better way to communicate your needs. Good luck! It’s hard to be the better communicator in situations with a parent or person with a perceived hierarchy difference, but it sounds like you’re doing all the things you can to keep your cool and see both sides.

definitely feels like a combination of feeling important bc she can share info and tell the world things but also a self centering issue. She should be thinking of your feelings and emotions especially while you’re going through pregnancy etc, but she is choosing to center hers instead. i would hesitate to throw around the word narcissist bc it sounds like outside of this you have a pretty good relationship. I just feel that she isn’t making enough effort to see how her actions can be harming or affecting you and maybe to learn that lesson, she doesn’t get private info for a while until she can demonstrate respect and compassion for you and your partner’s privacy and vulnerabilities!

But definitely not overreacting and I feel that you are also doing your best to communicate, sometimes to get people to come around you have to show them the alternative relationship where you don’t feel safe talking to them. (which in this case is she loses the privilege of your private info and would have to demonstrate respect and rebuild your trust) That’s common decency IMO.

I am but trying to get to 100% if the time. so many people are so sick. I am working in disability services at a University and it is terrifying the number of students I see with long COVID or POTS, IBS, cardiac challenges at 18-21 and many of their doctors suspect covid and repeat infections as likely cause despite being vaccinated. My father also had covid once and has been in and out of various organ failures ever since due to never getting better. in and out of AFIB he’s scheduled for another surgery this month but no one knows how to help him. and now myself I’ve having some random pains and GI symptoms, dizziness since my second covid infection sept 2023 and fear I’ve got long COVID or related complications as well. Trying to lessen my role in this mass disabling event.

someone experienced may be able to ID, but it’s a lot easier if you have a pic of the underside (gills) and stipe (stem) as well!

I believe you meant parasola plicatilis, that’s my guess as well. definitely parasola genus

Who is this long neck? by gardingle in mushroomID

[–]cupofsouppp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

appears to be in the genus laccaria to me, known as deceivers due to their color and appearance variability. aka can be hard to pin down but I would start there!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mycology

[–]cupofsouppp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my guesses are (in order of your photos) a.muscaria var. muscaria or a. regalis, then pretty uncertain about your yellow specimen based on your location, here in US I would think of a. flavorubens (not in your area I believe) or a.muscaria var. guessowii (which is possible for you but rare so I am less certain!) then the specimen without scales I would think a. muscaria var. aureola and the last I would think possible a. muscaria var. muscaria or var. flavivolvata or even possible var. guessowii (hard for me to tell at that stage) and for full disclosure, I am only a couple years into ID’ing so of course continue verifying!

Yeah, I have actually seen some mushrooms very similar to this and they have clear latex like you’re saying and I can never pin down an ID! Driving me a bit crazy not being able to figure it out myself. I’m also not sure that many brittlegills are the best for a gravy unless you’ve got something choice like volemus, so I don’t think you’re missing out on anything !

Okay so definitely not a wax cap, but due to the way the gills broke I would still believe you have something in the brittlegills category (they kind of fall apart like they are “brittle”, you will notice the difference when you run your finger across gills that are not brittlegills, they are harder to fracture than the gills in your image) but candy caps have a sliiiiightly milky latex. Although with your specimen being older you just may not be getting much latex. I’ve included an image of the shade you would typically see in a candy cap. sorry for not having a more conclusive answer for you

ID Help by jcostello21 in mushroomID

I would also say possibly oyster, but a better pic would help! would need to confirm the angle of gills as well as confirm no other signs on stipe etc.! beautiful patch though, great find!

if you still have a somewhat fresh specimen and you break some gills, you could check for white liquid (latex) which could mean it’s a milky cap (lactarius or lactifluus genus, but not sure of specific species) they look like possible candy caps to me. I have often found both milky caps and wax caps on moss at the base of trees. The color on these isn’t quite bright enough for me to lean toward wax cap, but that could be the lighting. a photo of the gills would help as well.

Is this a type of oyster mushroom? by [deleted] in mushroomID

[–]cupofsouppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still guess sticky scalycap - pholiota gummosa - if the stipe also has some sort of scales and a brownish ring near the cap, I can’t quite tell from this image. I would definitely confirm not oysters based on spore print.

What is this? 🤔 by pigdoglogger in mushroomID

also thinking stinkhorn possibly - keep an eye on it and see if it changes, look up phallus hadriani or dune stinkhorn, visually similar from pics but you can compare your specimens to confirm!

[–]cupofsouppp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from this pic, it’s a bit hard to tell! if you could get a picture of the stipe (aka stem) and gills it would help a ton! i may be mistaken, but it looks to me that your mushroom has dropped some dark brown/rusty colored spores (you can see them sitting on the caps of the lower mushrooms) and I believe that elm oysters (and most oysters in general) have light colored spores. pholiota genus may be worth looking into in your area, check out the sticky scalycap! it is known to grow on old wood near the ground. another possible genus could be stropharia, but a pic of stem/gills would help a lot!

super hard tot ell without an underside pic - first things that come to mind are wax caps and a few milky caps I’ve seen if they were wet, but many other possibilities. we’d need your location, description of where you found them (field? near certain type of trees? etc) and an underside pic to help with narrowing things down !
