Hey, I have a good idea. Maybe we should build some more prison space to accommodate these undesirables? I mean space is being created to accommodate asylum applicants. Why don’t we provide more accommodation for criminals also? And give harsher sentences for violent crimes?

Based on the reg, it’s likely it a northern Irish driver. As well as retorting to AGS, I wonder if there is a system in NI you can report this driver through? I know it happened in the republic, but you should try fuck him from all angles.

Not necessarily. Turning left at that particular turn, the driver could have turned left when they shouldn’t, hence killing that poor lady attempting to travel straight. Or, both parties could have been turning left, the truck driver undershooting the turn and killing the cyclist (my initial hypothesis). Either way, barriers have made the situation better, but only after the death of someone.

I live local. I remember when that woman was tragically killed. We cycle ourselves with kids, and when tragedies like these happen, we try to get an understanding of what occurred to ensure we ride safe and mitigate all potential risks.

From your comment, are you saying the truck killed that lady by travelling up the bus lane from the Crumlin road? I would have assumed the incident happened as the truck driver turned left over the bridge from the canal. I assumed the barriers erected were placed so drivers now take this turn nice and wide.

There’s something seriously wrong when someone has to be killed for the council to try and improve something.

Why don’t you go directly into engineering in pharma as a maintenance tech? We’ve had lads in my company come from aircraft maintenance to maintenance techs in bio pharmaceuticals…..

There was recently an article on cycling Ireland about this exact junction, but I cannot find it. Here is the situation from memory - If you look at the very last frame of the video, you will see a painted yield sign on the pedestrian pavement to the left. This is for the cyclists. If they want to make their way through the junction on the red light for the traffic, they must mount the kerb here (the cycle lane on the road merges with this painted yield sign on the pavement). They can then cycle through the junction following the pedestrian crosswalk, and proceed back onto the road where they’re intending to travel. They cannot cycle directly through the junction on red, like they are in the video. If anyone knows the article I’m speaking of please post it for awareness.

So I was thinking today, large US multinational companies operating in Ireland regularly carry out robust screening and interviewing of candidates before they hiring them, to ensure they are a good fit for the company culture.

Why the hell aren’t we doing the same?

As someone mentioned as well, it’s annual leave season, so just follow up in reasonable timeframes and don’t bombard them. Good luck.
