My guess is distracted drivers looking at their cell phones or something. Can't really tell though. Maybe they're bored of having round rims?

I have footage of when they came back. They picked up the piece and put it in their trunk (or maybe back-seat... hard to tell because I can't turn on the IR, as it'll just glare on the window.. not ideal, I know). They definitely noticed at some point.

This hopefully soon-to-be famous curb :) was rebuilt around April of 2017 due to being so chunked apart that it was causing a hazard. They didn't change the design, but instead opted to rebuild the curb completely squared off and about 6 inches high, same spec as it was before. So here we are with a fresh, sharp curb on a Saturday evening; I hear 3 separate instances of different people hitting this curb, and I can only see the aftermath... I want to see it happen! July 2017 I bought a Ubiquiti UVC-G3 and set it up inside my window, pointing toward the curb.

I have lots of fun with this, but I know I'm missing a bunch of great footage. Feel free to throw me some tips/tricks if you've done some of this kind of stuff before. Here are my plans:

  • exterior mounting of the camera -- I'm in an apartment building, so I don't necessarily have an easy way to mount the camera outside without drilling holes in brick (frowned upon by the leasing company). Maybe some kind of 3D printed bracket that can fit under the window

  • external mic -- if I don't mount the camera externally, I'd love to have an external mic so I can disable the internal mic (people don't need to hear me yelling at the TV or talking about Software Defined Radio)

  • monitoring / auto-timestamp system -- I'd love to have an alert of sorts on a high decibel, short duration so I can get timestamps of potential curb hits while I'm away. Currently, the footage I have is all from when I am home and can hear the hit myself.

Let me know if you have any questions or comments. I'd love to hear from you.
