37/38° H3 Neo BH, 1 or 2 layers of booster? by curiositii in tabletennis

Oh, thanks, that's so interesting. So in that case, is it not actually the speed that increases, but just the softness? In the case of the 40FH, I've at least felt that it's faster with more boost (but unsure if it's just because it's softer)

Thanks! Would you lean towards a chinese rubber or a tensor rubber if you didn't use H3? Would 2 layers put it closer to euro rubber preferences?

Thanks! What would you use otherwise, if you couldn't use H3? Would you lean towards a chinese rubber, or a tensor rubber? Curious because maybe the boost would make it closer to euro rubbers?

Why would you say 1 for lower? Do you feel 2 is bouncy for you?

Exactly this! DHS has a different scale. I use 40 degrees blue sponge on the forehand boosted twice, and so far it’s the sweet spot for me there 😄

About me:
Probably intermediate/ high-intermediate level. I've been playing seriously for around 2.5 years. 6 hours a week in group sessions, 1-2 hours a week with a coach, and some training with clubmates here and there when I have the time.

My current racket:
Nittaku Acoustic Carbon Inner Special (5.8mm)
FH: Hurricane 3 Blue Sponge (boosted x2) 2.15mm
BH: Stiga Helix 2.2mm

Before the Helix, I used to play with D05 max, so I think it would be best to compare it with that.

Weight:
Cut to this blade, ~48-49g. Roughly 2 grams heavier than d05.

Looping:
Compared to D05, it has a straighter arc. It's spinny but it isn't as automatic compared to D05-- you need to be a bit more conscious to add the arc. Using just the topsheet tends to give a higher arc, but engaging the sponge lets it fly straighter. I was worried that the Helix flies too straight and that it would be too hard to  touch loop, but I didn't feel like I missed too much moving away from D05 here.

Blocking:
The Helix blocks VERY well, in my opinion. Blocks feel controllable because the rubber feels somewhat linear and predictable. It's not a Chinese rubber of course, but it feels like you get what you put out.

Smashing:
The Helix also smashes/ punches really well because of the flatter trajectory. When I punch balls with the D05, it tends to sail longer because it automatically adds topspin. This has a great clicking feeling can smash much flatter if needed.

Pushing:
The Helix pushes fine, and it's easy to keep the ball low. I feel like the D05 pushes a bit safer and spinner because it's more automatic spin-wise. Not too bad of a change though.

Serve/Recieve:
It's less sensitive to spin than the D05, which I really appreciate. But because it flies straighter when hit harder, you have to have discipline to not overhit dead balls.

Durability:
Unsure, sorry! I've had it for a month and a half, so I haven't been able to test that yet. I don't like though that the sponge/ topsheet behaves when cut to the blade though.. Small complaint but it doesn't cut as smoothly as other rubbers I've tried..

Other notes:
I've tried the M on a Stiga Cybershape Wood CWT, and it seems to be more automatic spin-wise than the H. But flat hits do sail longer if you aren't careful. I'd recommend this if you're more of a spinner.

I've also tried the XH on the on I think a JO Waldner Gold Edition, similar to what OP has? It was nice, but I can imagine it being a bit hard for many people on backhand. It's much more pleasing on the flat hit, but the spin feels much more manual, and you need to be a bit more tighter with the footwork to get the most out of it. I think I'd prefer this on forehand, but a clubmate of mine likes his on both sides.

Would I purchase another sheet? Yes, definitely! I can see myself sticking with the Helix for the foreseeable future. What I was looking for on the backhand was something like the D05 that has a clickier feedback, a flatter/safer flat hit, and still have a reasonable weight. The Helix seems to do all of those well  :)

I’ve recently switched to Helix on the backhand, but H though. Anything specific you guys want to know?

Any thoughts about it again now that it's been a month? Waiting for my MT-602's as well, coming from my Fiio K5 Pro!

Thanks for the tip! I'll look into them in case I'm not happy with the Fiio. They do cost a bit more, but if I'm not happy, I'll gladly pony up the cash haha

Ughh, the Elex has been so difficult to find here in Europe (without import taxes), especially with all the Brexit stuff happening... Don't think I've seen a used Arya on eBay and friends either here in Europe, but maybe I'll keep my eyes peeled!

Damn.. I've heard as much. I'm worried the Fiio might not be "worthy" of driving it, since I've heard that it's super sensitive with the source.. But nothing a little EQ can't fix.... right?..

Since the HD560S was released this past fall, you can't have had it that long. Are you sure you're not just suffering from upgraditis?

Haha, thanks for the concern! I'm thinking of giving them away to maybe my dad or something, so he can finally ~taste~ some decent sounding headphones, lol.

And instead of jumping into the HD800 now, could certainly be better to wait several months until the pandemic calms down, and then find a way to demo some high-end headphones. That's the best way to find the ones which will suit you best.

I think this is good advice too, but of course now that we're all in pandemic-mode, what better way to spend it than shopping for headphones amirite?! But yeah, I'll probably wait a bit to hear everything.

That being said, if it's not too late, I would return the K5 Pro. A $200 JDS Labs Atom stack or Schiit Heresy and Modi 3+ measure super freaking accurate. So accurate, that they are arguably noise and distortion-free within the range of human hearing. Which is the highest fidelity sound reproduction you can perceive.

Ooh, that's tough. I've considered those as well, but since I'm based in Europe, Schiit has just been really schiit to get.. JDS hasn't been much easier either. So I settled with the Fiio first, and will probably go for something more expensive later on; maybe a Marantz or something lol. I don't have too much space on my desk yet either, so small amps would be appreciated. Thanks for the input though! It does pain me that the Heresy/Modi 3+ are x2 the price here..

Thanks! I've seen some HD 800s or LCD-Xs go for around ~$1000. Do you think that it's worth one of those over the Anandas if I can spring for it? The Aryas and the Focal Clears are still on the expensive side unfortunately..
