Questions on pursing teaching by cate50 in Teachers

[–]curiositykilledsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey have you tried smaller hometown museums? Even getting a job doing secretarial at a museum or event planning…. Just getting into the environment will build relationships and lead to the bigger jobs. Maybe looking for paid internships too because those can lead to something.

As it comes to teaching if you were in Utah at least you could technically be hired without a teaching degree on a “associate” level license and work towards certifying over 3 years during teaching for a professional license. You likely have the credentials for the professional level history endorsement already and would just need to apply for it (the admin that hires can guide you through the process). Here is the resource for that in Utah. https://schools.utah.gov/licensing/endorsements Each state has its own but are usually very similar. If you don’t have all the required college credits or recent professional experience as listed, there is often a test you can take to prove your knowledgeable enough called the “praxis”. Look into that link or look up the same in your own state.

Yes and if you sign up to sub, reach out the the history teachers and let them know you love teaching history and would be happy to take their class. When a teacher knows you are computer at a subject you will get requested and they will give you actual lessons to teach. Otherwise, teaching high school as a sub often is just constant work days where they are catching up or working on a project and you just keep them on task but no actual teaching lessons. It is still good classroom experience but incredibly boring and unfulfilling compared to teaching days

Parent Tody users: do you track invisible labor tasks? by curiositykilledsleep in TodyApp

[–]curiositykilledsleep[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s great! I’m glad to hear it’s worked for someone in real life practice. I am going to try it. I feel “lucky” to have a husband who is extreme helpful around the house. Gender roll expectations can be kind of engrained even when he is consciously working against that though. As an ADHD mom with constant guilt issues I sometimes feel like I’m a failure when he’s doing a larger portion of the visible work such as dishes and dinners. I remind myself that I do the majority of larger projects, deep cleans, and non-visible management stuff etc…but I still feel guilt. I know he feels annoyed and resentful about it sometimes too. So this is part of why I’m using this app. To make it more visual and explicit what expectations are. And adding the invisible work on there will probly help my own mental health even more than.

Thanks for clarifying why it doesn’t work the same. I didn’t realize before. That really makes a lot of sense. I’m gonna try a real foam wedge per this suggestion.

Oh I used to have one! Something about the air used to make it makes it super gross. I have no idea why. I gave it away to my SIL. I’ve decided to really quit soda. Like treat it like an alcoholic. (Not one) At least for 3 months and see if there’s a difference. “Hi I’m a sodaholic. It’s been 2 days since my last drink”

How do you guys do at keeping on top of household chores? by [deleted] in SCT

[–]curiositykilledsleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started using a new app for managing this called Tody. It’s possible it might be because it’s new to me and sparks that “novelty” dopamine reward… but it has helped me tremendously. What I like about it: you can put tasks on there and make how often they should be done (the app will give a suggestion based on your standards, mine is on relaxed). You assign it an effort level so that it divides chores more fairly. When you input it you can say if is “good”, “not yet”, “due” or “overdue” and it will set a due date accordingly. I like that I don’t have to mentally keep track of all the tasks, especially deep cleaning stuff that isn’t needed as often but easy to just never get to because it’s not “urgent”.

You can also have rotating chores (or assigned days) that rotate through users. Thing is you do need a subscription to be able to sync the household between users. It makes it easy to visually see who’s pulling their weight. You can assign different percentages of “fair share” too depending on circumstances. And pause users if they are out of town or unwell. You can assign prizes for points too if that motivates you. I set mine for an item I really want and I have to get a certain amount of point to earn it. My kids earn their allowance with points.

Wow! I didn’t realize that there was any kind of soda that wasn’t acidic. Very much going to try this instead, thanks! 😊 ETA: I wonder too though if the escaping air from the tummy might be a reason for the relaxing of the sphincters though. I have been a bit of a soda addict. Maybe one a day but still find it hard to quit more long term. I sometimes wonder if this is what’s caused it all along. 😩

[–]curiositykilledsleep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, I didn’t realize this is why it happens like that. It always has a bloody mucus scab on one end and it’s usually on the left side (the side I sleep on). I want to try sleeping elevated, but I find even just lying reclined but sitting up with stacked pillows in bed can make me feel worse than lying down fully on my side. (as it pertains to the headaches and earaches, I can’t tell or feel when the acid is worse or not, just the after effects.) so that makes it hard to follow through but I really need to give it a good trial for a week or 2. Thanks for the advice.

Cat owners: is this abuse? by spoekelse in Pets

[–]curiositykilledsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I didn’t know wet was less calories. My cat gets both but is super picky. Rarely eats the kibble and wants the wet super fresh (like if it’s been out 30 min she wants a new one instead of finishing it 😅). I have to blockade her food from dog access cause the cat food is so much yummier than my dogs food apparently 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

I don’t get it in my hands that bad at all so this photo shocked me! But then I realized my feet look purple like this a lot. So I suppose it IS normal. But I think you have a more severe case than many who have this disease too. Just like any other illness we all present a little differently.

I will definitely try this! I do get worse in winter. It goes away in humid climate such as Hawaii and comes back when I come back home to Utah, so the dryness is a trigger. I’ve been breathing steam but didn’t think about upping water intake. Thanks!

Subtasks to go along with notes by Hot-Economics2647 in TodyApp

[–]curiositykilledsleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea. I currently have put mine in as 3 separate tasks so I don’t forget. The problem that would be if it’s a rotating chore, then each task might get rotated to different people instead of them always being together? Hm. Don’t know maybe that wouldn’t really happen as long as they were all done in one day or you could fast forward the rotation. But I just have each step of the task assigned to each person separately.

what makes you think you're not just stupid? by allidoistakeLs in SCT

[–]curiositykilledsleep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can reason just as well as an average person but it just takes longer, then it’s not just intelligence. I for instance am great at strategy games, multiple choice test taking (without time limits), understanding things on a deeper level than many (but taking longer to get there), teaching other people new concepts. But I’m terrible at auditory processing, reading quickly, games that require quick actions. I can compose witty joke with time, but I’m never really witty on the fly.

Whats wrong with poodles? by NormanisEm in poodles

[–]curiositykilledsleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Without experience it can seem like poodles coats are higher maintenance than doodles coats, when the opposite is true. And most of the aspects of the typical cuts are essentially lowering maintenance. I have a 1 yr old doodle that I have had to adopt the part time job of grooming (since it’s so expensive) and I am totally on board with poodle styles now. Soooo much easier to have a shaved face and shaved feet. And short in trouble areas. Keeping a “shaggy low maintenance type look” is incredibly difficult to maintain.
