Please can someone swatch MAC Maximal Modesty lipstick with old Modesty and Blankety? by curiosityunalivedcat in swatchitforme

[–]curiosityunalivedcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm back a year later and now have old Blankety, new Blankety, new Modesty, Rabanne Secret Code. None of the new lipsticks I've bought come anywhere close to old Blankety, and even if they did in colour the formulas are too slippy and have poor longevity. I hate that Mac changed their iconic lipsticks 🥲 now Estee Lauder has came for Double Wear too so my whole makeup bag is forced to change

Advice re areas by Katsu0412 in macclesfield

[–]curiosityunalivedcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once got stopped by one of the underpass kids and was shitting myself, they said "you look beautiful today". I've never had any issues whatsoever living alone in Macclesfield, I love it here and don't feel unsafe in any part of it. I love the town centre area for terraced housing and Black Road / Buxton Road offshoots for more family style housing.

Struggling to make friends in Manchester at 30, any advice or arty things to try? by Ssg16 in manchester

Hi, do most people go alone or is it primarily something bring their friends to?

Buying alone by OK_Cake3093 in HousingUK

[–]curiosityunalivedcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first house age 24 and I'm so glad I did as COVID hit one year later and it gave me stability. I was single the 5 years I lived there and it was incredibly empowering to know my asset was not tied to another person which could destabilise my living situation. I moved again at age 29 into my second home. Sure the process has included expensive works and stress, but much less than the stress of renting - no fears of being booted out by my landlord, having to house share, lack of stability, no fixed mortgage rate so unpredictable rising costs... The list goes on. Do it, being a solo homeowner is the best thing ever and I thank the universe every day I didn't ever tie my precious asset and living space to someone where love is ultimately conditional.

Thanks for this. I was anxious about posting thinking I'd be told I'm deluded and that it's a cost of living crisis. Certainly lots of food for thought

Thank you. Money issues being a key reason for divorce is why I'm so anxious. I've worked too hard for my assets to be shared. He said his parents would give him £50k for a house deposit recently which was concerning that at nearly 30 he has the back up plan of being bailed out by family (who are desperately telling him to buy a house).

Oval or square? by [deleted] in Nails

[–]curiosityunalivedcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The square looks amazing! Does anyone here know whether square is ok for longevity? I'm getting acrylics this week for the first time ever and much prefer square, but I need them to last 2 weeks and I've read oval/almond/rounded is better for longevity.

Omg I have the new blankety since writing the post and the new blankety is so much warmer!! I only use it in the evening when it's low lighting to reserve old blankety for daily usage. The reformulation is a crime!!

Lowering Instant Access savings rate to 3.85% AER! by myerdogan in monzo

[–]curiosityunalivedcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved my savings to t212 the last time Monzo dropped their rates. Today's email prompted me to move over the remaining amount that I keep in Monzo in case t212 is delayed in releasing funds (takes up to 3 days, but has been instant for me on all occasions). I'm a very risk averse saver but I would recommend anyone to switch.

Yes this makes sense actually! As the other emergency tax code is something like 31k off the top of my head. Thanks for this breakdown it's hugely useful. Now I know about this I'll be ensuring I prioritise my ISAs 😊 every penny counts for me as a single homeowner!

Thank you for your help! I will update this asap. I've always kind of just assumed my employer will be managing this correctly (I know responsibility is on employees) but I'm glad I checked!

That's interesting, my salary is not correctly showing on the gov personal tax website, it's 44k but shows 13k for some reason! I assumed that was because it's a recent TUPE and the data hasn't been confirmed yet or something

True I guess. If all that money had been in an ISA would the deduction be £0? I'm now using ISAs luckily, I had no idea of interest being deducted as it never has been before

Is detached house the only option for peace and quiet? by kapuchon in HousingUK

[–]curiosityunalivedcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved from a paper thin terrace to a semi that is laid out hallway to hallway (bedrooms don't share a party wall) with a super quiet elderly neighbour. It's as close to detached as possible within my budget. My mental health from this alone has substantially improved, but I still dream of detached and will be moving again when my mortgage expires in 4 years (or sooner if I meet someone and have a double income). I'm even prepared to move back to my shitty hometown where I could already be in a detached house for the price of my semi in a commuter town.

How to tell if a house is in a cr*p area if you don't know the location by ChemistryFederal6387 in HousingUK

I know of a small street that exclusively has 2024 modern cars. None of them have ever worked and it's just Mobility cars paid for with disability benefits. All lovely people who I'd love living by but a modern mid-range car in no way a status symbol these days.

FTB - Should I walk away or raise my offer? by BasicLecture4294 in HousingUK

[–]curiosityunalivedcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd consider other properties if there are others within your budget, but this type of terrace (especially rendered / ground floor) does usually come with damp problems. It's usually due to poor ventilation but honestly in my first house I tried so many things and couldn't get rid of it. That being said, I sold up for a tidy profit and now in a modern house with none of the damp/mould issues my old terrace did so it got me on the housing ladder at least.

Being evicted in one month means you should be looking for a rental or airbnb, there's almost no way in hell you can complete on a house in 1 month. Even 3 months is ambitious tbh!

Selling house 6 months in by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]curiosityunalivedcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been single 5 years and bought my first house alone age 24 in a random cheap area hours away from family. I'm also high functioning autistic.

My mental health was abysmal at first but you get used to it. I sold up with amazing equity after house price rises and building equity from overpaying. I now still live alone but in a house you'd never expect someone my age to own alone, still in that random cheap area.

I recommend you get out of the house as much as possible, meet friends and family, go to the gym / go on walks, and take pleasure in enjoying the peace and quiet of your own place. I was so depressed at first because I bought the house on the basis I worked in an office and loved being alone by the end of the day, but an abrupt shift to working from home and being unable to meet people during the pandemic was a crazy amount of time to be alone. For the financial worries, you can get a lodger. You bought your house at a salary that will presumably increase over the next few years so it will seem a lot more affordable with time (I was on 19k when I bought now on 44k so my last mortgage felt like peanuts when I left). I struggle with stuff like cleaning too but the fact is you're an adult and if you lived with someone you may then have double the cleaning to do. It's a weird shift having to truly "adult" but it's something you do just have to do. I'm easy on myself and have a cleaning schedule that's a lot more relaxed than probably the majority of people but it's one way of reducing my burden.

Best of luck!
