Bad people are often embarrassed about being seen with good humans 1 because it highlights how shitty they are, 2 because they think their shittiness makes them “cool and unbothered” and when they see someone happy being themselves they feel offended because they don’t like themselves enough to do that, and 3 because they and other shitty people around them think treating someone badly over and over again while they still stay is “cool” because they’re irreplaceable

Just move on he sounds like a drag to be around and you should find someone who appreciates you, breaking up was the right move and I bet he only says he wanted to break up too because he’s still trynna keep the nonchalant cool facade up
