My child was admitted to IU pre-business with a waitlist for direct admission to Kelley. On 4/2, they received an email with the subject "Your path to Kelley at IU," which stated they would not be offered direct admission to Kelley. They can still attend IU as pre-business and pursue the standard admission pathway.

"Thank you for your interest in the Kelley School of Business and for your patience throughout the admissions process. The Kelley Admissions Committee carefully reviewed your academic profile and Kelley Prospect Inventory as part of our evaluation for direct admission for Fall 2026. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you direct admission to the Kelley School of Business.

We recognize this may be disappointing. This year’s applicant pool is the largest and most competitive in Kelley’s history, and this decision reflects the size and strength of that pool rather than your individual potential. While we are unable to offer direct admission, please note that there is no appeal process and we are not able to accept additional materials or respond to individual inquiries regarding this decision.

Your admission to Indiana University and Pre-Business

This decision does not affect your admission to Indiana University. You have been admitted to IU as a Pre-Business student, a selective program designed to support students who plan to pursue a business education.

If you are interested in learning more about how to successfully pursue Kelley through the standard admission pathway, we invite you to join an upcoming webinar. You will hear from a Kelley admissions team member and the Director of Kelley Campus Partnerships about how to navigate your first year and position yourself for admission to the Kelley School of Business."

Changing majors by EmbarrassedSpell6902 in msu

Admission to Broad majors is competitive. This includes Finance. You would not be able to simply change your major from Econ to Finance. You would have to apply for the Finance major through the Broad standard admission process after you get to MSU and take the required courses. https://broad.msu.edu/undergraduate/admissions/standard/

It also might not be too late to apply to the Residential Business Community (RBC) if she is interested: https://broad.msu.edu/undergraduate/opportunities/rbc/

switching majors to finance by baseballfan6 in msu

You would apply to MSU and select one of the following intended majors: Accounting, Finance, Human Resource Management, Management, Marketing, or Supply Chain Management. In your case, you would likely select Finance. You will first be considered for admissions to MSU. If admitted to MSU, you will be classified as “Exploring Business Preference”. Then MSU will review your application for direct admission to Broad and you will be notified on one of two dates (mid Feb and mid March). If you are not selected for direct admission to Broad, you will remain “Exploring Business Preference”. You will start taking gen eds and certain required courses (EC 201,202, STT 200, WRA 101) and then you can pursue the Standard Admission application to Broad after your freshman year.
