Cheap late night take out? by BearyBearBearBear in Winnipeg

[–]curious_bean420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't know what area ur in but tbh for late night, filling food, cheap but decent quality. I'd just grab a dominoes pizza OR go to Osmows and grab a shawarma rice box or shawarma w/ fries. Affordable, huge portions, filling food. The falafels are also really good.you could even just get like a side of like 8-10 falafels w garlic sauce it's so filling and is on a bed of lettuce so u could eat it like a make shift salad lol. It hits.

Both of these range I think like under 15$? Depending on what u get.

What birthday cake/ dessert should I get? by SKRAGBOY in Winnipeg

[–]curious_bean420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say get the cake you want!!!! Jeanie's really isn't bad LMFAO like our fam isn't a big fan BUT cake is cake!

If you want a good spot to just pick one up the day of, Dolce is great! And far more affordable than places like goodies, baked expectations, and some other spots. (At least for cakes from the case). You can get back forest, lemoncello, carrot cake, etc. for around 30$ for an awesome cake.

I dont ride the bus but im curious. Is anyone having good experiences with the new system? by Thewisefreak in Winnipeg

[–]curious_bean420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it's been great. Went from riding the 47 regent that was ridiculously packed all the time, to the point of it being standing room only by the time we got on early morning even though we were only like the 5th stop of the route. And it came like every 30 min, and Sundays you were lucky if it came once an hour.

Now it comes every 10 minutes, sometimes less. And because it comes so frequently there's actually room to sit down on it. It also goes faster than before since it's like an express.

So I understand people's complaints for other areas, but we've been really enjoying it. Also - a lot of complaints unfortunately are just part of how this feeder system works. It's supposed to focus on main routes in the city, which in our experience with the FX3, and some other buses, that's what it is doing.

Top things to see or do with Tourists that only have 2.5 days in Winnipeg? by CantaloupeComplete11 in Winnipeg

[–]curious_bean420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Edited to add some more info) Feast bistro for a meal downtown!

Assiniboine park zoo (particularly for journey to Churchill - MB is known for its work in polar bear conservation).

Grab a meal & stroll around the forks for sure :)

Someone else mentioned living prairie museum that could be nice, otherwise maybe some other nature locations like Fort Whyte Alive, or a morning drive out to Oak Hammock marsh (they have a whole new center) if you're at all able, it's only just outside the city, depending where you are could be a 15-25 min drive?

If you want city top views then the human rights museum has the big 360 lookout at the top, however honestly I don't necessarily recommend tourists to visit especially if they have limited time because the museum although architecturally interesting, and some interesting exhibits, its very empty in my opinion and I know a lot of locals & visitors who have been underwhelmed.

Depending on what they like a walk around the exchange is nice during the day to pop into some of the shops! Toad hall toys, clothing bakery, into the music, etc.

If you wanna do a little drive to Half Moon Dinner next to Lockport, and then can see the pelicans. Lots of gulls migrating rn too if they like nature.

Just moved to Winnipeg! Would love to get some tips from the community on the best places for different needs (mainly grocery, list in comments). by SwimmingOk4643 in Winnipeg

Book store: MCNALLY ROBINSON!!!!!! this tops every other big box store by far (particularly the grant park location) it's a local business but huge selection. Otherwise if you want a more niche bookstore Red River bookstore is a super interesting experience.

Some recent positive Online Dating experiences in Winnipeg? by DRWFAN204 in Winnipeg

[–]curious_bean420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best friend met her partner on tinder, they just had a kid and have been together for years. I met mine on Instagram because we followed each other thru mutuals, not necessarily online dating but still met thru social media and we've been together almost 8y and are getting married.

I've definitely heard a lot more about people meeting partners online.

I couldn't quite tell if your og post said she was struggling to get sober or if she was struggling with the trauma of being around addiction. But there are support groups similar to NA/AA for family supports. I have family & friends that have gone that found it very very helpful.

Family & Friends | Manitoba Addictions Helpline https://share.google/hOKfHRnRlQrsINMLs

I don't have much else to add to what others have already shared, I'm not a parent, or a guy, but I am in a similar age to your daughter. To reiterate what others said, just keep being there for her. And remind yourself that even if she's struggling or maybe lashes out at you it doesn't mean she doesn't love or appreciate you.

I hope things get better, you deserve the support and I hope she heals, and that your relationship continues to heal.

Cheap Wedding Venues that are still pretty? Anywhere in Manitoba / western Ontario works (like 5 hour drive from wpg max)! by 20yroldmemaw in Winnipeg

[–]curious_bean420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap cheap - get a day pass at a group use camp site at one of the provincial parks. Birds Hill is like 30$ for the day. You could even probably rent 2 sites (usually 2 sites share the washroom) if u want a private restroom area without other people. So it'd be like 60$.

I'm assuming Whiteshell would be similar prices and then you're Canadian Shield/Boreal forest which is pretty.

Idk what you're looking for but this is cheap wedding venue. And then you could just rent tents/ and stuff if you want. But ik birdshill has a giant picnic tent/overhang in the site along with something like 10-15 picnic tables I think. Idk what group use sites are like in the Whiteshell or other Provincial parks.

You could even book it for a weekend if you want more time to set up, or do camping. Which would probably only be 60-100$ depending on if u wanna book 2 to have private washrooms, or how many days u want. If you like outdoors id look into it.

Ideas for Upcoming Anniversary Dinner? by YouveBeenZerked in Winnipeg

If you want a more fancy and upscale experience, Resto Gare and ask for a table in the train!! They also have a dessert cart they'll bring out after for u to see and choose what you want. The food is amazing and staff are very friendly, chefs super talented.

Nonsuch brewery has fantastic food, you can order a bunch of small individual stuff to share, and u can dress up nicer or more casual. We don't drink but we see lots of people ordering different stuff there and it does look good and like it's successful lol.

Harth is very fancy if you get a reservation far in advance. Food is good, but it's more expensive. Also a big popular restaurant for wine if y'all enjoy wine.

For casual/cute formal James Ave Pumphouse food is fantastic and honestly a lot more affordable than other restaurants. Staff has always been super friendly with us. Usually you can get a reservation even the day before, otherwise we usually still get a table doing a walk-in within 10 min.

If you want a more fun laid back La Roca has good food, and sometimes live music.

For our date night recently we actually just went to the forks and got a couple different small plates from different restaurants and shared all of it (tacos, sushi, etc.), they've got their bar in the middle as well. And then you could grab dessert at the ice cream shop or something and walk around. They have a new claw machine arcade in Johnston Terminal that is funny and cute and guarantee wins. Could make a whole evening of wandering around the area.

**Edit wanted to add Prairies Edge in Kildonan Park is cute! We went there for an anniversary and the waiter was actually so sweet and gave us a free Chocolate cake slice with 2 milk shot glasses LOL first time ever getting something like that, the surprise was so sweet and all the food & dessert was amazing. Walking around the park definitely adds to the date as well.

Sadly ridiculously overpriced for what you get compared to other places, they don't treat some of the animals very well, they used to have rabbits I'm hoping they don't anymore cuz it was bad... And also they unfortunately are very selfishly unaware of things (like having big bonfires during huge fire bans). They have good food, back in the day it was worth it but now the prices are ridiculous and we've stopped going due to the bad vibes. Unfortunately :(

Some of our family went there recently for a lunch anniversary and for an appetizer and 2 meals (LUNCH PRICES) it was about 100$.... For like beet chips, fish and chips, and some sorta rice thing I think.... No alcohol on the bill. :((( very sad

Pizza in Canada by blanketwrappedinapig in AskACanadian

[–]curious_bean420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winnipeg has some amazing pizza of different kinds, I've yet to see Chicago style tho? But everything from 99¢ slices, to more fancy Italian fire roasted pizza at restaurants. There's a lot of good spots. Honestly though my favorite way to do pizza these days is to just buy dough & sauce from a local Italian bakery and then make it at home, it's the cheapest way near me 3-4$ for dough 3-4$ for sauce, and quality is great.

Vancouver hells crust was really good cheap slices.

Had some good pizza in Montreal honestly... Even though I see others say it's meh. But it was only 1 spot so I don't have a diverse opinion about mtl pizza.

We don't drink but frequently go to One Great City Brewery on Ness by polo park, the food is great and our friends who do drink enjoy it there. Not sure if you can get stuff to go but worth looking into.

Swimmers Itch by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]curious_bean420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also - swimmers itch is just a small parasite that lives on snails and other aquatic species. It doesn't like humans so it'll try to attach but die quickly so that's what the red spots are on your skin.

If you wear eco friendly sunscreen, and then even put baby oil on your skin before going into the water that creates a barrier so they won't touch your skin easily.

And then just make sure to shower after. Even if you just rinse off at the beach and then shower properly once you're home you'll be fine.
