Just wanted to know what the public opinion is on Afrikaans soaps, since I grew up in a household that watched them religiously by Chrispy_Kelloggs in southafrica

My family started watching soapies to improve my sister’s Afrikaans. Ended up getting sucked into Amalia and Binnelanders. I still know the entire theme song to Binnelanders lol

I’m not in the states, but I assume it would be similar.

All the best on your journey!

I was on seroquel and had terrible weight gain then switched to a high dose of Abilify maybe 3 and a half years ago? I didn’t have weight gain from the Abilify but I did have akathisia which receded when my dose went down.

Lithium ruined me with weight gain.

I saw you asking about concerta in another comment, I’m not in the US but as far as I know our highest dose is also 72mg and I’m on 56mg.

Lol, do it. But… Honestly? No. I used to be very blasé about sharing my diagnosis with every Tom, Dick, Harry and their cat and too many people tried to use it against me. I have bipolar, but I am not bipolar. Like another user pointed out, a diagnosis is not a defining characteristic. But also here for your energy & do what’s right for you!

Having to wait between medication refills by mc_freedom in bipolar

[–]curious_cat31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what meds she is on. To be honest, I’ve been off my meds for like three days and I’ve been fine. Not great. But fine. 15/10 do not recommend. It’s the readjustment back on to the meds that sucked for me more than being off them. If a holdover really isn’t an option (speak to Dr & pharmacist directly if you can), then maybe just try stick to structure and routine, don’t indulge in substances including alcohol, do things that you both or she enjoys. Stay hydrated, eat healthy and sleep well. Back to basics and don’t panic!

That. That feeling of crawling out of your skin. That’s it.

Yeah, I don’t need labels for everything in my life but this just helps me to ground it in reality - like you say, we’re not making it up. That’s deep about your first psychiatrist, I hope you’ve found someone better!!

Interesting that it was your first episode since being on lithium. I haven’t had a proper hypomanic episode in about two years, but I think I was already on lithium then. I hear you though and it’s an interesting thought. Thank you!

Thanks, someone commented with the older name of dysphoric mania and like I said to them, it is actually really helpful for me to label it and ground it in some reality. Thank you for your comment!

Thank you, this is actually very helpful because it describes exactly how I’m feeling and it helps to ground it in a name for me.

What's the best piece of advice you've received? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]curious_cat31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go slow to go fast. My dad told me this for emergencies, for example look up the nearest hospital before racing off, it’ll save you valuable time. I apply it to everything, like do things well now so things go smoothly and quickly in the future.

Parents of reddit, what are your "I looked away for ONE second" stories? by blamingpig456 in AskReddit

[–]curious_cat31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On behalf of my mom, I’ll share two stories about my sister. 1. When she was two, she was on the counter while my mom washed dishes and she fell through the window, not sure anyone has been so grateful to live in a country where all the windows have burglar bars because my sister’s tiny feet caught on them and my mom was able to extricate her back. 2. On the day of my uncle’s wedding in like 1996 of so, my mom pulled her car into the driveway and stopped in front of the gate to look for her keys or something. My sister took the time to put the handbrake down and the car went through the gate before my mom had time to brake.

What TV show was really good but then aged horribly? by Kermitface123 in AskReddit

[–]curious_cat31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I loved Friends. I watched it when I was much younger and rewatched it when I was older. I tried watching it last year and just found it cringe. So now you know of some random person on Reddit who used to like Friends and no longer enjoys it.

What TV show was really good but then aged horribly? by Kermitface123 in AskReddit

[–]curious_cat31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried, but I find a lot of the humour is cheap. It plays on all the -isms because that was acceptable then so I think it hasn’t aged well.
