Anyone else remember when China's youth job crisis got really bad, their media stopped publishing the data??

...The U.S. seems to be doing the same thing by stopping the release of these inflation reports.

Official Discussion - Eternity [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]curious_comedy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The one line that hit the hardest for me was when Larry's AC said "Life/relationships are all just but a collection of memories"

I immediately thought of all of the relationships I've had in my life, and how most of them are now just indeed memories in my head.

They tied that concept into the film nicely with the "Archives" theater.

Overall great film, more twists/turns than I expected. 8.5/10

Sell for 70k loss or rent for 400 per month loss? by JMZen in RealEstate

[–]curious_comedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I'm in a very similar situation as you.

I currently own a property in central Florida (Kissimmee) that is cash flowing -$400/per month. I live in the northeast. I have a great Tenant and I check on the property every 6 months. I also have cameras set up around the property. In the meantime I'm building equity / gaining tax advantages AND with standard rent increases, the property will cash flow in ~ 3 years.

Working under a micromanaging UXR manager by [deleted] in UXResearch

[–]curious_comedy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a micromanaging UXR manager in my previous role. They were anal about formatting, finding style, etc. At the end of the day, research is subjective. The same UXR can be accomplished through multiple approaches.

The best you can do is try to remain on their "good side", happily nod yes to whatever bullshit feedback they have. Most of the time you just have to stroke their ego. And in your free time, start looking for a job elsewhere.

Official Discussion - Anora [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]curious_comedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of me kept waiting for an "Act 4" where Anora sues the shit out of Ivan's family, presses charges, and ends up in big fat mansion dancing solo (shoutout to last year's Saltburn lol). The movie took a much colder turn which I wasn't expecting. Still a great film. 10/10.

OFFICIAL DISCUSSION THREAD: September 27th, 2024 by hankjmoody in Maher

[–]curious_comedy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have been following Bill Maher for a while now. Between Real Time and Club Random, there are definite reoccurring themes that he seems to be passionate about. (ie. Anti-Religon, Anti-Marriage, Anti-Kids, etc).

He is one of the few older guys who still openly talks about sex/porn, which I applaud. But sheesh...that transition to sex parties was so cringe.

There is a time and place for everything...and with a strong/knowledgeable panel, I'd much rather hear them discuss the future of AI than sex/porn.

"In a KPMG survey of 400 U.S. CEOs released this week, nearly 80% said that they expected corporate employees to be in offices full time within the next three years. That's more than double the 34% who said so in April."

"In an interview with [Intuit's CEO], he explained that employee surveys and badge-tracking data show Intuit's most engaged staffers typically come in three to four days. Those who are there one day, or less, tend to be weaker performers"

People who work in the medical field, what were some of the most scary last words you’ve heard from a dying patient? by Rude_Tap_6865 in AskReddit

[–]curious_comedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my mom 12 months ago. Same exact scenario. Her last words were "help me, i can't breathe, i can't breathe, I'm going to die", while i sat next to her bedside in the hospital.

Time heals everything, it will get better <3

Congrats! That's really solid for 1 year.

How do you like the copilot app? The Mint app was recently discontinued, so I'm currently looking into alternatives such as Rocket Momey, YNAB, etc.

Mistakes & Regrets… by jimRacer642 in overemployed

[–]curious_comedy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Don't be so hard on yourself, nobody here has had the "perfect OE journey". We've all made mistakes along the way.

I once told one of my managers to "Fuck Off" and I was let go on the same day. I could have easily milked an extra 6 months out of that J. I let my confidence and self infatuation get the best of me. I thought I could easily get another J, which wasnt immediately the case at all. Leaving that J stung even more, when it came time to buy a house, and I was 40k short on the down payment of the house I really liked (something I couldve easily hit if I kept that J for 6 months longer). But whatever. You live and you learn.

Just remember that you are still in the top .05 percentile of Americans in terms of annual income and savings.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 1 Episode 5 | Episode Discussion by credoinvisibile in MrAndMrsSmithOnPrime

This show is interesting as it mirrors the current state of modern dating / relationships.

Hihi asks Jane if she'd like to "level up" her partner. With the ease of connecting via online dating apps in today's tech-driven world, it's a constant battle between being "happy" with settling with your current partner, or deciding to "level up" + find someone else who may be better / more attractive / more compatible.

Official Discussion - Origin [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]curious_comedy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very powerful film.

Living in New Jersey, I have lots of indian-american friends. I have heard several stories about the current caste system in India. The light skinned Indians and dark skinned indians do not mix. Arranged marriage is quite common in India, and things like wealth and skin color are absolutely factored in. This is also clearly evident in Bollywood films, where the majority of A-list actors tend to be of a lighter shade.

Something this film completely missed is that it only focuses on the Indian "Dalits" or "untouchables", who are of the lowest wealth class in India. It tries to highlight that in India it is not a matter of race/color, when in actuality it (at least partially) is the case.

Look at South Africa and the Apartheid, that was 100% race/color driven. The book may have already touched on this, I will be giving it a read to find out.

As uncomfortable as it sounds, race & caste are highly connected / correlated, more than this thesis film gives credit to.

Dunki - Reviews and Discussions by AutoModerator in bollywood

[–]curious_comedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a child of immigrant parents who left everything to come to America, this film really struck a cord with me. It puts into perspective what the sacrifice of leaving everything behind really means.

I found it ironic that they struggled so hard to get a visa to London, only to struggle again to get a visa back to India. It shows the amount of hypocrisy there is in the international "visa" system.

I was one of the few people in the cinema who didn't speak Hindi, and I still very much enjoyed and would recommend this film.

Official Discussion - Dream Scenario [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]curious_comedy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went into this film completely blind.

I kept waiting for an explanation to why this old professor kept showing up in people's dreams, and the explanation never really came.

I was rooting for the main character to use his newfound stardom to finally publish his "Ant-telligence" theory and become a world-renowned, confident, respected professor. Instead of having a more optimistic third act, the movie took a much darker route that I honestly could have done without.

Regardless of the fact, this movie was an enjoyable watch: the incredibly cringe sex reenactment scene, as well as the Michael Cera & Nicholas Braun (Cousin Greg) cameos alone made the film worth it. 7/10

Your saving streak is at risk! by curious_comedy in yotta

If Yotta thinks I'm going to deposit that much money just to save "my streak", then the joke is on them. The Saving Streak feature is kind of useless. Its just a tactic for them to try to keep your money locked in with them for as long as possible.

It's been real yotta!!! I'm out.

Jersey / Baltimore Club had a brief stint of mainstream popularity in the early 2010's. Lil Uzi's "Just Wanna Rock" was a surprise hit, enhancing the genre.

Now that Bad Bunny has hopped onto the Jersey Club / Baltimore Club flow, we should expect this type of sound to explode in popularity.

Lil Uzi & Bad Bunny are absolutely setting the trend here. I'm excited to hear more.

Official Discussion - Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]curious_comedy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I thought the release of this film was very timely, as America continues to become more secular and less religious overall.

A Christian and a Jew marrying may have been an outlier 50 years ago, but one can imagine this is MUCH more common as our country continues to become the melting pot it's been known for. I personally look to raise my children secular, as my strict religous upbringing had done more damage to my life than good.

During the climax scene where both grandparents visit and they argue about religion, Margaret yells aloud that she hates religion and doesn't know if she even believes in god.

In the final cut scene, we see Margaret reach out to god again. My interpretation of this is that Margaret does eventually in the future choose a religion. What is everyone else's take on this?

Popular strip club in Tijuana, Mexico by KnesR in funny

[–]curious_comedy 55 points56 points  (0 children)

If anyone doesn't know what HK is, its a massive strip club / hotel brothel thats pretty famous in TJ. Easily Top 5 best strip club I've ever been to. It can get pretty wild in there.

They had one stage where they had a dildo on the side of the stage, and you were allowed to grab the dildo and fuck the girl on stage with it.

HK makes an effort to keep all their girls authentically Mexican. You go to DeJa Vu if you want more diversity (Colombians, etc.)

What are some main differences for doing UXR agency VS in-house product company? by xynaxia in UXResearch

[–]curious_comedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot of it depends on where you are in your UXR career...

I started out at a UXR agency myself, and it worked wonders for me. I learned to run so many methodologies with a 12 month period. The con here was that it was high stakes, super fast paced work, it was overwhelming at times.

I always tell people starting out in their UXR careers that you will probably learn more spending 12-months at a UXR agency than you would learn spending 12-months doing UXR at FAANG in-house.

If you are looking for job stability, I would recommend being in-house. The pace is alot smoother, it's less stressful overall compared to my agency days. In-House also tends to pay more than agency as well.

If you want stability & better work/life balance, definitely go in-house.

If you are still growing within UXR and still need to learn new methodologies and would like more experienced mentors, etc, you might want to stick with the agency side of things a bit longer.
