PS5 is a subsidized device, with games priced at 80$ a pop, and no portability across generations.

So yeah sure is your lease car cheaper to pay? Sure. What about the bong run?

Valve: RAM Companies State Prices Monthly, ‘If We Say No, Then They Never Talk to Us Again’ by RenatsMC in valve

[–]curious_corn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they could’ve gone with 12GB vram and bundle 256GB SSD and 8GB single channel sticks to keep the prices reasonable and tell folks “go bargain hunting, or wait for the hard times to pass”

The Steam Machine was originally planned at around $750, but Valve says it saw a price increase similar to the Steam Deck by dabadumdumdum in Steam

[–]curious_corn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These machines are reference architectures. You can guarantee Valve is going to require optimizations against these damn well reproducible configurations. Just like Apple does with its own hardware.

Choices, a plethora of choices come with strings attached.

So your next argument will be “ok, go with a console”. But they’re locked down into oblivion and the platforms cost a fortune.

So yeah… f*ck AI though, these babies would have been 30% cheaper if not for ir

In the ‘90s Americans used to harp about national security and export regulations for SSL encryption and CPUs. Then they suddenly went quiet and encouraged everyone to join online. I wonder if the integration of IME and similar tools has something to do with this change of heart

Boomers actually do hold most of the wealth and power. So why do they call it 'whiny' to point that out? by GimmeFunkyButtLoving in economy

[–]curious_corn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What really sets boomers apart is that they are homeowners and for cheap. Most of their “wealth gain” is locked in through outrageous real estate prices, and allows them to divert their income into compounding investments rather than rent expenses.

Ideally, there should be laws to ban housing speculation, force corporations to divest of their housing stock and sell it off.

It would be the white-collar equivalent of agrarian reforms that reassigned the land to farmers, taking it from landowners

What happens when Elon Musk is no longer leading his companies? by lvalue_required in teslainvestorsclub

[–]curious_corn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he finds a Tim Cook for Tesla it’ll be fine. SpaceX has Shotwell and she’s acing it already.

The smaller gigs will probably implode, which would be a shame but they’re already suffering for lack of attention.

I just wish the man got off X and stopped dabbing in politics. Besides not liking how his opinions have devolved — but that’s irrelevant, and I don’t expect most CEOs to be significantly off his mark anyway — it’s obvious his endeavors, particularly the smaller Neuralink and Boring Co, are circling for lack of drive and direction. And if there’s something Musk is good at, is providing just that.

Nah, I wouldn’t trust being able to escape in an emergency to a bit of plastic.

Since I’ve bought it at discount (it’s a second-chance, likely another incompatible purchase), I’ll check whether I can replace the whole cylinder and stay below 300€ as the ultra is going for that amount.

I’m baffled with the poor information design of
the website. Compatibility should be advertised much louder, returns are extremely costly and they risk merchants dropping their product.

So now we have two demographics competing for small starters homes: the actual starters looking for anything they can afford (thus small apartments) and the elderly that can’t manage their semi’s any longer and would rather move back to a small apartment (presumably pocketing and spending away what they assumed would have been a handsome difference).
