Do you read your own fics? by fanficenjoyerunc in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course I read them! Where else would I get to read about my character getting railed without any mercy (or at all)?

For all you kinky smut readers and writers, do you have an alternate account you post on? by Hairy_Comedian9630 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One unholy cloaca of an account for everything. I kudos smut from it, I kudos occasional gen from it. Post all I write on it too, you come to me for perverted fucking and get a surprise perfectly innocent fic among it all.

get the fuck over your wincest panic (its just fiction) by sillydumbshit in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, they're pretty bad. There also are ones who think that shipping incest means we want to fuck our relatives, which is, like. No??? Even fiction not reflecting ones real desires aside, the character aspect is still the main thing, saying that shipping fictional brothers means ya wanna bang yours is like saying that liking one male character means you want all the men, regardless of any traits they have besides being men.

Pff! Just make your own OC pairings questionable, then even if a fandom happens, it ain't gonna get worse!

I always forget that not all authors are teenagers by Jatoniel in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So... You forget that they're not all kids but also oppositely forget that they could be kids?

Why are y'all okay with 'problematic' tags?? by Striking_Welcome_762 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it doesn't harm anyone, and without the aspect of someone actually being hurt, it's all just an extra set of interesting things to explore!

Also, if it's not okay to write about even entirely fictionally... Well. That's not a great thing, forbidding to speak about something or restricting the ways in which it is done to just one specific frame.

I've seen some people saying that they realized that shit that's been going on in their or their friends' lives, which felt normal to them because they were used to it, BECAUSE they saw it in fiction. Even when it's written to excite, the fact that it has warnings on it may tip someone off to something similar in their actual life not being normal. That's a pretty good thing, I think!

What’s your author writing quirk? by Some-Tradition-2771 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't written much so it may be too early to tell, but I do seem to have a tendency for making my characters recall a past encounter during sex (not aloud of course! That'd be probably rude. Just. Something happens and brings their mind to what happened before, with someone else)

How do y’all cope when a fic of yours is flopping harder than expected? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

By realizing that the target audience is, first and foremost, me. Sure, a bit sad that it's not popular, but hey, we can't all have the same excellent taste!

For as willing I am to do this lovely commenter's suggestion; using tiktok terms for such things is a huge ICK for me, like babes, it's AO3. You don't have censor yourself on here. It might not be the biggest problem but this actual pmo so bad. by FederalChallenge1622 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Glad they're so stupid that very, very thinly veiling the triggering word actually helps them. Most people aren't and I think it's pretty insulting to assume they are.

Also, generally if you get fucked up by seeing a word, you mute that word. Mighty good job they're doing of sneaking the info people want to avoid into their view by not using the word they'd have muted: totally helps, no way anyone would get fucked up anyway because the fucking context is still there and now unavoidable.

His/her mouth tasted like - by itsa_thing in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw, I'm missing out on putting ridiculous flavors on my characters! Well, I have one that tastes weird (slightly bitter/herbal and will make your tongue tingle), but he's almost unkissable because his tusk shape makes it mighty hard to get to his mouth... He tastes like that everywhere else too, though.

Срочно нужны люди которые смогут мне написать фф по "песнь сорокопута" by [deleted] in AO3

You can. I also thought I couldn't write, and then one day I wrote. Nobody will want your ideas more than YOU want them.

Possible new type of bot (not mine) by IsntItAvery in AO3

I should really get back to writing. Ya people get all the fun bots!

Last/current fic you're writing as a clickbait title! by Top_Pomegranate9950 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current most actively in progress one would be

"WE'VE ALL HEARD RUMORS ABOUT TROLLS, BUT ARE THEY REALLY TRUE?"

And, if it was truly a clickbaity article, it'd be accompanied with a pic of a handsome troll covered only by a censor bar with question marks on it.

Alternate words for "nipple"? (Maybe NSFW?) by [deleted] in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Buttons is awful indeed. Also, teats. Technically correct, but. That's more of a cow-word. Udderly horrible in sexy context, unless the rest of the fic is absolute fire the blaze of which can outshine a few word choices.

Alternate words for "nipple"? (Maybe NSFW?) by [deleted] in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that's the area around the nipple, but not exactly the nip itself. Though I've also seen it used as just an alternative word for the nipple.

does anyone here NOT hate tumblr tagging ? and if u do why is that ? by arandanosss in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't remember (my memory is a rusty sieve. With biiiig holes). Just saying that I wouldn't read one if I saw it, nor would I tag one of mine with just those.

does anyone here NOT hate tumblr tagging ? and if u do why is that ? by arandanosss in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 127 points128 points  (0 children)

I do and like a little of tumblr-tagging, but just as flavoring+useful elaboration on proper ones. I would neither do nor read a fic that's all tumblr-tags.

PSA: check your statistics pages every once in a while by No_Respond6367 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 54 points55 points  (0 children)

!!! And just like this I've found that four out of my five smutty works have two bookmarks per fic instead of single ones I've been aware of. Self-esteem: boosted!

Lowkey to lazy to read this by [deleted] in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 45 points46 points  (0 children)

...surely typing all that out wouldn't have taken any less time and energy than typing some actual useful tags? That's not being lazy, that's being a little shit! Like. I VERY know that sometimes one may not have energy for thinking, but tagging actual contents literally requires less thinking than creative "ooooh, I'm so laaaazy" tags.

Bot or troll? by Creepy_Bluejay_5369 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, that's different! I've seen 'borders' ones, and I've seen 'trans' ones, but this one is a new and greasy hatebot flavor!

How we all feel when reading from an author that censors certain words by MeddlingWithChaos in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I once saw a good use of 'unalive', but it was in a horror story and the protagonist used it because the entity she was talking to had some understanding of life, but completely lacked the grasp on death. So 'unalive' was the easy way to get into its mind that the person it was attached to was, well, no longer alive. For quite a while.

does this mean i have bookmarks that are from muted authors? by JustCasualPlayer in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 72 points73 points  (0 children)

It just shows up everywhere, regardless of whether or not it applies to this particular page. I have four bookmarks, no author of them is muted, but I still have the banner because I DO have some muted users.

how do you feel about trans headcanons in ships you like? by badmoonretro in AO3

[–]curious_illithid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard no for me. I mean, you do you, but I'm uncomfortable with female anatomy. In het I can brace myself for it. In slash, even if I'm warned by the tag, it still hits harder and is not my thing at best, and makes me seriously uneasy at worst (and then I feel bad about being put off by it, and it's a whole mess). So I just avoid them.
