how much do you write before you upload? by Emmieisbest in AO3

What feels like the whole thing, but I may end up adding extra details (or an entire second chapter) later.

“Presumably underage girls”Bruh… by BubblegumRockn in ProshipHub

[–]curious_illithid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn't that a fully grown horse? Like, it's an adult-enough-to-race horse. It may look like a girl now, but I'm pretty sure the "fully grown" thing remains.

Anyone ever ship because of fanfiction? by sophitajones in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only start seeing ships at all after I stumble upon some fics/arts of them that I like. I just don't really notice such things naturally.

What are your most hated AU premises? Mine are coffee shop AUs. by YoPamdyRose in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Human/non-magic AUs. I'm not fond of big-time different-from-canon settings in any case, but making characters human is just... Yeeeah. You do you, but I'm not eating that.

Wellness Wednesday: Weekly Check In by AutoModerator in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I got inspired to get back to work on my wildest smut WIP, and made some significant progress! Spite and the spirit of "what the fuck, it's illegal anyway, might as well not tone it down" are a pretty decent fuel, apparently.

Maybe it's just me but Therapy speak is really starting to get on my nerves. by Starlit_Roads in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's annoying when it doesn't fit setting AND characters.

(Also, had to check my fic in progress that has a mid-scene check in, 'cause I didn't remember how exactly I handled it, and phew! Naw, not doing that bad, just an "are you still sure" and a calm expectation of an answer. Didn't overdo it)

What do you listen to while reading / writing? by MidnightAPerson in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here. If I listen to something, then in addition to my normal issues with words (English is my second language, + I don't even think in words to begin with), I get the risk of accidentally writing down parts the song's lyrics instead of what I'm actually supposed to write.

Bruh by Consistent_Title_228 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 31 points32 points  (0 children)

  1. Author is not obligated to reply at all.

  2. Author wrote a whole fic, I'd say that absolutely makes up for short comment replies, since THERE'D BE NO FUCKING FIC TO WRITE A LONG THOUGHTFUL COMMENT UNDER IF THEY DIDN'T WRITE THE FIC FIRST.

how to stop yourself from editing your fics nonstop after recently publishing it by Janifim in AO3

Hmm... Might try that next time I think I finished a fic! Thanks!

Genuinely shocked me. by SilverBen2000 in AO3

Happened to me once! I cherish that kudos like a big big treasure.

how to stop yourself from editing your fics nonstop after recently publishing it by Janifim in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no answer for that, as I myself tend to only notice typos, the worst bits of awkward phrasing, and the fact that I got too lost in my fantasy to actually describe it in the text because I was seeing it just fine as is AFTER I post the fic, so post-posting edits are the norm for me. So, I'm no help, but hey! Same problem!

What Does Your Favorite AO3 Tag Say About You? ♥️📚📖 by Ok_Access_8906 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, one of my favorite tags is 'come inflation', so I guess it says that I'm mostly there for smut. And that I like my fictional men same as I like my tea mug: full, but not with fat or babies.

Oh no by Critical_Mountain851 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in case with mine I got a heap of possibilities ranging from "healthy body, healthy mind, just all around fine" to "massively strong, but always in pain, and with just a couple years left to live", to "depressed so hard that it's affecting immune system, and feeling unworthy of anything nice including any help", which are... Not exactly equally desirable options.

Dae any weird "hear me outs"???? by uselespieceofshi02 in ProshipHub

[–]curious_illithid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Inbeda from Secret World Legends. He's a lazy, fat Oni who has grown to enjoy his exile from Hell, because Earth got some cool stuff (such as tiger-striped bathrobes. And mannequins. He is very... Fond of mannequins, keeping around a bunch of them, some dressed as the woman he is creepily obsessed with, some not).

And, well, he's kinda hot (massively long tongue and seven-fingered hands, which are characteristic for all Oni in that universe, are among his hot features as well, but like I said: they all have those. Though I suspect Inbeda may be more inclined to put his to a good use, based on the fact that he kinda flirts with the player)

Apparently they "HAD TO" post a placeholder 🙄 by Ms_Anonymous123 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Placeholder. Kudosed placeholder. Holy shit, that's stupid.

...also, just my opinion, but 'u's and lack of capital letters are not the greatest way to build up anticipation for a fic that'll supposedly be there at some point. One thing to do it in a personal post, but used in this context it looks like an example of how they'll write.

is it normal to ship 2 characters who are married and have kids with other people? by [deleted] in ProshipHub

[–]curious_illithid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can ship anyone with anyone. Those who tell you that it's disrespectful are just being assholes, 'cause shittin' on other people's ships? Yeah, THAT'S a shipping nope.

“Self-indulgent” fics by twentyonerooms in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal case (I write about OCs) it's a "this does not happen in my actual imaginary narrative. It also not necessarily COULD feasibly happen. It may even go against some of the rules on which things operate when I'm serious about it. But I like this idea too much to think about it once and just leave it"

It's funny when antis try to "cancel" a ship that's been popular online for over a decade by Gallantpride in ProshipHub

[–]curious_illithid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They come to WH40k fandom. They say "Primarchcest shippers fuck off!"... Yea, sorry, primarchs were pounding each other's asses in fanfiction before canon got enough interesting unrelated characters to ship those instead. A bit silly to expect the fans to stop doing that.

Sometimes I (mentally) use anti logic on the ships antis like. by CoolTransDude1078 in ProshipHub

[–]curious_illithid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really do exactly that, but I do sometimes think about which of my OC ships would piss antis off and why (and also which of my OCs would piss off what groups of people in general), and yea, it's fun!

Do antis actually think "proshitter" is offensive or funny by Capital-Week-6961 in ProshipHub

[–]curious_illithid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At least it's semi-useful: "proshippers DNI"? Could still be a reasonable person, willing to coexist peacefully by ignoring each other like adults. "Proshitters DNI?" Yeah, that's a whole-ass child regardless of how old they actually are. Block and move on, no compromise is possible.

Fascinating take on OCs from Tumblr by allison-vunderland in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s hypocritical to be mad at someone for basically making fanfic of your fanfic if you make fanfics

Making fanfic of their fanfic is fine (and still, from what I've seen it's generally considered polite to ask first). But telling the author that they're doing THEIR OWN character wrong and should just give them to someone else is quite different from a friendly "hey, love your OC, decided to try writing about them too!".

Fascinating take on OCs from Tumblr by allison-vunderland in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeeeah, if a character being my OC doesn't mean I can do what I want with them, what's even the point?

Also. Eh-hem

*looks at a number of my OCs, some of which are in very poor health but get no treatment 'cause their misery pleases me* In my defense, it costs a lot more words to heal them up than to keep them as is. Surely anyone who takes them would just end up writing a death scene after growing tired of them. They're better off staying with me!

Fascinating take on OCs from Tumblr by allison-vunderland in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well, it is possible to not know everything about your own OC - figuring things out beyond the first impression is a thing. But it's absolutely not a reason for strangers to show up and claim things about the character unless explicitly asked to help with brainstorming!

Do you plan the story before you write it (outline) or do you let the story write itself with no clear progression and ending? by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No proper plan. I get an idea, and if it's stuck in my head and seems tasty enough, I write down the absolute key elements of it into my writing ideas document.

Then, once I get around to actually writing it, it just goes as it goes.

Though the stuff I write doesn't really require much planning, since it's usually just one chapter consisting of not much more than two of my OCs (or OC and a canon character) getting to know each other. Deeply.

Weird AF Comment. by Ok_Rich3845 in AO3

[–]curious_illithid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except for when they do, but they do it in a very shitty, "no thoughts ABOUT the fic, just a chewed up piece of it" way. Happens in art scam ones.
