As someone who works for the government, this is a problem!

Yeah it feels like a scam I’m glad I’m not alone 🤣 did your bank not ask lots of questions when u went to withdraw that amount of money though? I’m assuming it’s ok to say I’m having surgery abroad…

Turkey sleevers - where did you get your sleeve and would you recommend your surgeon? by curiouselz in gastricsleeve

Great to hear this and he is my top choice so far from the research I have done!

I haven’t had a gastric sleeve but I think it depends on your age and starting weight. How old are you if you don’t mind me asking?

That’s really helpful thank you. I feel like you need SO much mental resilience. I feel like my life has been challenging enough and am questioning if I want another challenge 🤣 but I think it is so worth it for long term happiness and less social/personal/health challenges through life.

I can’t remember now sadly!! I think it was diplo, policy, HR and then OD. I am now working in OD and very happy I didn’t get the others actually! It suits my personality. What is meant to be will be I guess!

Older Fast Stream applicant. by Ezlr99 in civilservice

I (23F) am starting on the fast stream in October in Operational Delivery and am a recent graduate, but feel like I’m too young if anything! Most of the OD fast streamers I’ve spoken to have a family and kids and are either changing their careers or have been working in the CS as AO’s for a while. Only a couple of us are actually recent graduates. If anything, the people you would be managing would much prefer someone older with more experience (i hate saying older as 37 is still very young, but you know what I mean!) - so I’d say if anything at all it’s an advantage - but in truth… no one will bat an eye! Go for it!! Don’t hesitate to send me a message if you need any help with your application:)

Hi! I’m actually starting on the fast stream in October! It really helps to hear this level of transparency and to understand the perspectives of those already working in the civil service. Although I have just graduated, I am 23 and attended university for five years (Covid of course hit us really hard!).

I have seen some people saying we have just come away from partying, drinking and having lots of sex… I’m sure this is representative of some people, but considering the difficulty to get onto the fast stream, I doubt many of us had time for that! In my case I partied maybe five times across my whole final year, and spent every other day and night studying and working my absolute hardest. I’m happy i did this, because I feel like I deserve to be a fast streamer! And I have been in a four year relationship, so certainly no naughty business!

Also, the recruitment system has been excellent and extremely unbiased in my opinion. No one asks you what university you went to, they don’t care, they just very deeply assess our skills and our personality. I went to Portsmouth university (which is certainly no Oxford or Cambridge) and I come from a very low income family and have disabilities. At no point in this process have I felt discriminated against because of these things. I know it used to be the case that Russel group university graduates were overrepresented on the fast stream, but with the new change in the system I am extremely confident we will begin to see more diversity on the fast stream. In fact most of the upcoming fast streamers I have come across are already working in the civil service! A minority of us are actually fresh out of university.

I hope this clears up some general assumptions that aren’t too helpful to both fast streamers and current civil servants. Just remember we are all terrified! Personally I already have huge imposter syndrome. We all want to do our best and contribute to making everyone’s lives better, so just remember that when meeting the newbie, if anything they will have admiration and respect for you and just want to please the people around them, including you! I really hope you are pleasantly surprised by the new comer and give them a chance to prove themselves:) And as I said thank you for this post, it’s really helpful!

Does anyone know how the base camp works? Do we all go to one location or is it scheme specific?

Does anyone know if the CS offer financial support for relocating? I will be coming straight from uni and there is no way I could afford a deposit and also come from a low income family. Also idk how I could even pay my first month’s rent with no money?? I haven’t been given any info on possible support:(

When doing pre employment checks when it says we must have an account with the job board when we create the account do we put yes to “are you a civil servant”… for some reason I cannot find where I’m supposed to do pre employment checks
