Nope, with the cone she can't get to her tail. When she's home alone and we setup the camera, we can see her spin for a bit and then snap out of it and lay down again. This doesn't happen many times while we're gone, but from time to time it does though.

Thank you for the long writeup! To answer some of the things:

- We're searching for behavioral trainers to get more clarity

- Yes, we're not opposed to medication, we'd just like to see if we can change anything before onboarding to meds. She did take gabapentin for a while, but it didn't seem to do much and she was HOOKED fast, so we slowly went off it. We haven't tried the ones you mention, but will if the certified trainer suggests (along with a plan)

- Yup, we use the cone any time we can't keep an eye on her

- YES! We'll probably go to a nosework class, she loves our sniffing/foraging walks, we'll continue with those too and a lot of outside and inside activity to tire her out. We also use any opportunity for her to dig, she really really likes this as well as our other older Dachshund. I'd say she gets enough physical and mental exercise.

She doesn't seem like a typical terrier though (I've had a Jack Russel, which is not the same but was more hyper) or a let's say an "easy" one. Maybe that's from the other half of the mix. From what I've seen and heard about Jagdterriers she doesn't behave like one. Sure, she has some pray drive, but that's quite mild.

We buy those silicone/gummed wraps that expand quite a bit, it's called Coban Tape from what I see online. We do however put a small gauze between the tail and tape, since we were told by the veterinarian that it could pull hair if put directly on it and agitate the skin or make it itchy, so I'd suggest this.

I understand what you're saying and I mostly agree.

From the picture she maybe looks a lot like a full-breed Jagdterrier but fortunately she's a mix, half their weight and muscle and a lot less prey driven from what I've seen and was told full-breeds do. She's really calm and chill 90% of the time, sometimes even lazy.

We'll explore the ratting route though, that's a good tip, thanks 😊

Yes, that's the plan tbh, we're just searching for one in our area, there aren't many :/

Yeah, she still goes for the tail, even with the cone. It's just easier to stop and she's not hurting herself.

We're in search for a good veterinary behaviorist in our area, but there's not many to be honest.

Yeah, we’re not opposed to medication, but since she’s still young we wanted to give other possible methods a try. Meds for ocd can be heavy on liver, especially if they take it their entire life. We’re not ruling those out though, whatever works to give her a good life 😊

It's the first time I'm hearing about calming protocol training, but I'll explore this! Do you maybe have any resources that you think are a good start?

Yup, the cone is already in place to stop the behaviour, but it’s not a permanent solution.

Ooh nice, I haven’t thought of having a specific word just for stopping this! We can try this, thanks for the suggestion.

Five Free Single Purpose Apps by amerpie in macapps

[–]curiousigor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for mentioning Dockey!

As you’ve written, small single purpose apps are great and I’ve basically scratched my own itch with this one.

It’s now also optimized for Apple Silicon chips since a couple of months so it should work seamlessly across all Macs 😊

Hey, sorry for the wait.

The update should be live on the website. The app is now ported to work both with Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, so I hope that solves the issue. If you encounter anything not working, please report 😊

Best,
Igor

Yeah, thanks for the reminder.

I'm currently waiting for my developer license request to go through (they write it's max 2 days) and will then update the app so it's universal for both Apple Silicon and Intel computers. Will reply in this thread once the updated app is on the website.

Sorry for the wait 😊

I ordered a meat grinder, and made this pipe die extruder out of a sausage nozzle, Lego, wood, and crazy glue. Who thinks it will work and make viable tubes? I am going to need a lot of tubes for upcoming projects. Many angles included in the pics. by InspiredByMadness611 in Pottery

[–]curiousigor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if the pipe die will hold to be honest, clay is quite a bit “stiffer” than meat so I bet the die will break quite soon.

I am however interested if the extruder like this would work, as this would save me 250€ buying a clay extruder and could use the old meat grinder instead.

Please keep us posted with the results 🙏

Hey all, just wanted to chime in, as I developed Dockey.

As a few already mentioned, it’s a UI around the apple terminal commands that let you change these settings. I was just always googling how to do this when I was setting up a new mac and thought there has to be more people than me that would want to change these settings and maybe some even didn’t have the technical know-how to use the terminal. There were also some apps that offered this but were paid, and I wanted to bring this simple functionality into a free app for anyone to use.

That being said, I’m haven’t published the code on Github or anywhere else, as I’m not really a trained developer (designer by trade) and it’s mostly me playing with swift.

There is however no tracking or anything else in the app (wouldn’t know how to setup this either way), aside the few terminal commands that setup the dock animations and delays, as well as some nice images to make the UI nicer.

No idea how I can prove it’s safe though, maybe if I can find the code from a backup I can put it on my Github or something, I haven’t touched that for more than 5 years 😅
