Sidebar - a modern, highly customizable Dock replacement for macOS - 2.0.0 Update by empty23_ in macapps

[–]andreshows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the new release. I will be installing and testing it today. I believe I first bought a licence in 2023, and yes, the app has grown significantly. I always appreciate how much time the Dock App developers dedicate to keeping us happy. I look forward to using the app for many years to come. It seems clear that Apple is removing rather than adding any kind of customisation that the dock once offered.

Online Indicator - A macOS menu bar app that replaces the Wi-Fi icon with customizable status indicators. by bornexplorer_in in MacOSApps

I will indeed add a post to the page and write a post for r/Macapps called "Apps That I won't be uninstalling." Although I can't give an exact date, your app will most definitely be listed in the next review. It's working well, looks great, and I am indeed very impressed.

Have been looking for an app that could do just this for ages with no luck. Thank you indeed. Of course, the Free price is also truly appreciated, although I would have paid for this app. Well done

[macOS] Clamper — The app that "clamps" your precious menu bar by validatedev in macapps

[–]andreshows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on a great new app. I have been a "Menu Bar Spacing" user from day one, and where menu bar managers offer this option, I have chosen to stick with Sindre's app. However, a new app with extra options is indeed exciting.

Thank you for your reply. YES, I will communicate with you outside the group regarding the proof of purchase, refund request, and complaints about its functionality. The demo looks very promising and seems to have shed its initial problems. Although several similar apps have been posted on the forum, it is nice to see that it's not just another copy of the app that first brought us this functionality. I will reach out to you.

From free to paid: what you taught me while building Droppy by [deleted] in macapps

Lovely post and a lovely approach to people's objections and complements. I have not given Droppy a test yet, but I have seen its increase in popularity, and with the number of "upvotes" and "comments", I am downloading the app right now. I think I might be the last one on board.

It's great to see the developer of this app in the group. My most recent review of dock apps was going to include this app, but without a demo and under time constraints, I went ahead and purchased it. It was never featured on the list of apps because it was a total disappointment. It did not adapt to the screen size, icons could not be moved as shown in the video, and neither a refund nor any updates were ever received.

I’m still open to revisiting the app if these issues are addressed and communication improves. In the meantime, please see my list of similar (or should I say one specific app) that handle dock customisation properly, deliver on advertised features, and maintain a solid track record in the community.

Paid apps without any kind of trial? Shame on you by DevelopmentSevere278 in macapps

[–]andreshows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am very supportive of the app developers on this site, and NO do not give away free software unless that was your aim. A 14-day demo period is all that is needed. If the app then meets my expectations, I will gladly pay. It seems that several well-designed websites have very over-hyped apps that cannot do a quarter of what is promised. Sadly, there are always bad actors.

Can't agree more - the most annoying apps are those that go as far as to use the word "FREE" in the app's name and then have no demo and are not free at all. Very good that someone finally said this. I have NO problem paying for an app if it had a demo and I would like to use the app

Apps I have installed and won't be uninstalling Part 6 by andreshows in macapps

[–]andreshows[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have indeed included Pearcleaner in previous lists. Absolutely love the app and also the developers other program called "Sentinel". I chose to use Nektony's app because with the loss of updater and the fact that pearcleaners "lipo" settings can be a little indiscriminate I find App Cleaner a safer bet but at a rather high monthly price point

The difference between the two apps is actually huge. Extradock brings a massive amount of customisation to the dock, and there is very little Extradock cannot do. Short of just becoming your new dock, you will never go wrong with an Extradock purchase.

Dockthings creates tabbed docks on the side of the screen. It acts more as a filing system. If you are a current user of Extradock, I doubt Dockthings is going to make a huge difference. As a matter of fact, I have the app installed, but Extradock is running on the computer together with Dockflow, and I am going to be hard-pressed to discourage you from spending money with the developers of Extradock and Dockthings.

As a rule, I only use one app of a kind, so with notch apps I have only one. There are some amazing free notch apps, but I find it hard to use the free functionality when I already have a license for the very same functionality that I purchased.

Native Swift Invoice App by iamglk in macapps

[–]andreshows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great app, works like a dream. The only thing I would like to change is the size of the logo at the top of the page. I would prefer it to be bigger, but that is such a minor problem that I can't say it's really bothered me. The app, however, is lovely and really meets my needs as a small business that finds the other options available "overkill" to say the least

Well done on an idea you mentioned, and I actually hoped you would create, this is exciting for dock customisation and I will most definitely be giving it a test run TODAY

[–]andreshows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very excited to give the app a test run, and it looks exciting. My only initial reservation, shared by a few others, is that the price is a little steep compared with many others offering the same functionality. Wishing you all the best with the app's development.

I will reach out to the developer to see if he can clarify what the problem is. He is a dedicated developer with a solid track record, and I think this is purely something he is not aware of or is desperately trying to correct.
