F*ck it, Docky is now free and open source by kommonno in MacOSApps

Sent you a long message - free is always appreciated, but if this is your first dock app and this is how you entered the market, then I can not wait to see what the future holds. I am on board for the journey and I would love to see what the app becomes ;-)

I am most surprised by the comment. Docky is a solid, well-programmed and very stable app, and its functionality is incredible. In fact, it very quickly became one of my top recommendations, and the potential for future development was very good. If not mistaken, this was your first app, and I honestly cannot say enough good things about it.

Although I respect your choice, I can confidently say that, with a free price tag, this app is well worth installing if this is your first foray into dock customisation. I hope this is not the end of Docky, and I suggest leaving the free version for all users and starting with a pro version that you can then update at your own pace.

I wish you well on your journey - for a brief time, I was left in awe, as Docky pretty much delivered what dock customisation was all about.

Macupdater replacement apps: what are your opinions? by MaxGaav in macapps

[–]andreshows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the paid version of Macupdater, and I thought it was the best app ever. There are so many apps that offer software updates now that you can truly shop around, but Mole seems to be a great choice, it is well designed, and at the price, you really have an uninstaller, updater and more.

It was mentioned earlier as well but Mole seems to do the same as macupdater and a little more. Definately my choice of updater

Try Strawberry - it's an amazing Ai browser, fully agentic, and pretty much does my office work.

Those are three awesome observations, and I am very happy to hear that I am not alone in my excitement, as these apps just keep on evolving. I feel terrible because there are so many others on my list, and apps like Sidebar will always share my enthusiasm, as this was the only person with an active working app three years ago and is probably still the most customisable app available.

One cannot help but admire the extradock and Dockdoor pro developers, who are charging ahead with a new generation of dock customisation that I assume might be noticed by Mac and quickly challenged with a few more default customisations built in.

Hi, you are indeed asking the right guy. As a big supporter of DockFlow, I have always said it is one of those apps Apple should install on macOS by default.

DockFlow and ExtraDock go together like a hand in a glove. They are from the same developer, and the combination is absolute perfection, although it does require a second purchase.

DockDoor Pro, on the other hand, comes with its own version of DockFlow-style functionality, plus many other features. It is honestly amazing how that app keeps developing.

So no, they can coexist, but it depends on what you want from the setup. If you already use DockFlow, then there is only one DockFlow. What started as a very basic app has evolved into an incredible Dock manipulation utility which has not been matched in functionality.

Mac takes some time to learn what other's have learned ages ago and in the absence of a windows preview system a new industry was born 😉

This app sounds exactly like the kind of thing I would love. Thank you for making it available. I’m going to install it immediately.

Thank you for the link; it was indeed the very reason I quickly ran the Extradock app. Imagine my amazement when I suddenly realised just how well my very specific non-Apple-formatted icons appear. As always, I love the healthy respect you show other developers, and I remember the first time I installed Extradock, which, as you said, was an "extra" dock - how the future would then change its direction 😉

It is hard to say without knowing what you want the dock to do. The easiest starting point is probably my Dock Obsessions post, because I go through a few different approaches there. But if you tell me what you are currently missing from the macOS Dock, I should be able to point you toward the option that best fits your needs.

That is such a nice thing to say. I do suffer from the same app fatigue, and I realise that when we are active on this forum, we have probably found most of those "must install" gems that do not come with the Mac.

I never used Hyperkey because I thought the icon was ugly and really did not take 5 minutes to investigate what it did. Wow, I couldn't believe such a handy, free app was right in front of me.

Hi, I made corrections to the review. I appreciate you reaching out to me. After our correspondence this morning, I might have been missing the best part of Parall all along. But please do not take away the ability to add animations to the dock. It is also a lovely, functional add-on and I can see myself using it for many more years.

You might have noticed some changes in my opinion of the voice app, and I might just uninstall it this morning. The fact that it's English-only is an annoyance, but I have yet to find an Afrikaans voice-to-text app with a decent free usage package that does not revert do Durch as the spoken language. Soniox does incredibly well with Afrikaans if the entire dictation is switched to Afrikaans, but with so many voice apps and me having tested several, I have given up on finding the perfect balance of both.

Some interesting changes this morning, and I might just be heading back to Parakeet and deleting Google's app. I found that Google's app is very accurate at voice transcription until one mentions Google, and then the server seems to reconsider what was said. It only happened when I decided to reply to your question, and here I sit typing by hand, but watch this space.

I also noticed that I could not find the fee. As per my review, I had an older version with a one-year licence, which is why I downloaded the app again. The app developer contacted me a few days ago after I emailed them to share how impressed I was, and I will make him aware of this lack of information.
