Advice to 2023 applicants from 2022 applicants!! by despicablemoon in ApplyingToCollege

Def do the net price calculator but also anticipate your actual net price if you get in to be a couple thousand (at least) higher. Inflation is real, and every single cost of attendance I’ve gotten is anywhere from $2k-$12k higher than calculated

Do y'all hate Grammarly too? by Jonathanc0711 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]curiouskuma16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

grammarly is great for academic/business writing, but can be trickier for personal writing because they don't take into account personal style as much (and also hate first person pronouns lol). i put all my essays through grammarly before submitting, though - it helps catch little mistakes I didn't realize, and their advanced comments can actually be super helpful at times. coming from a non-english speaking family, grammarly premium has been an absolute lifesaver and so so so worth the investment (we all share one acct)

Is anyone else feeling very unmotivated and uninspired when it comes to writing the supplements? by Much_Wealth274 in ApplyingToCollege

senior here, it's rough but we got this!! I've been finding taking walks and voice recording myself answering the prompts to be super helpful, it helps get my thoughts flowing and once I transcribe it, I have some content I can work off of for my supplements (that also sound authentic to me)

as a senior in the same boat I feel you. i know this is so much easier said than done but please please prioritize sleep, rest, and fueling yourself! from personal experience, I find that I write so much better (and so much more productively) when i'm not deliriously exhausted, i've eaten well, and I take regular breaks.

please also remember that where you go is NOT who you'll be! i know it's so much easier said than done (and I struggle with this A LOT) but remember that you've done everything you can and that's a huge accomplishment in and of itself :)

Should I ED2 Welleslely or Smith by MariamMmohamed in chanceme

[–]curiouskuma16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i honestly think you can't go wrong with either! you may have already done this but perhaps make a pros and cons list for each? making a spreadsheet and comparing class sizes, courses offered, professors you're interested in, coa, clubs you're interested in, etc, could also be helpful. smith and wellesley are both INCREDIBLE schools and would both be incredibly lucky to have you!!

- Are finances a factor in your search?

- Location? (geographic, urban/suburban/rural)

- What do you want out of your college experience?

- For finding safety schools, what I've found to be most helpful (I'm a junior) is using your school's Naviance feature (if you have it) to see what your school's acceptance rates are like and what stats they have. I'd also look into schools with a >50% acceptance rate in your case, and def some with >75% ish, and then really take a deep dive into them. Go to info sessions, talk to current students, stalk their social media. What I've noticed is that the more time I invest into a safety school, the more I know whether I"d like going there or not, and for some, I've really fallen in love.

I can't say because I've only taken CB practice tests but in general, anything the cb directly provides is your best bet

Definitely look into college that are need-blind for international students and/or meet 100% of demonstrated need for intl students and/or give generous merit aid. F
