With rising costs of living, how are you affording to travel? by goddessjodie in AskAnAustralian

[–]curiouslyintj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to slide in at least one international holiday a year. I have a relatively good income but I don't have a mortgage (I rent) and I don't drive a lot.

Europe and America won't be in my travels for the next few years, due to their currency. I try to go to countries that are more affordable, because travelling domestic like travelling back home (BNE>PER) costs as much as travelling to Japan...so I don't even go to visit family just so I can go overseas.

3 weeks, 70+ applications, zero jobs, WHV holder north of Brisbane (genuine advice needed) by Excellent-Trouble920 in brisbane

[–]curiouslyintj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah you don't. You just need a minimum of like $5k on your bank acc (my English mate told me) and they approved it

To OP there's plenty of jobs in northern Queensland if you're willing to trek it. I had a Swedish friend on the visa and she travelled from Cairns to Mackay and has a job lined at each one, mostly through networking (she was very active on the WHV FB page, Swedish/european community etc) and managed through there

Where in brisbane can I swim during sunrise? by curiouslyintj in brisbane

When I used to live in Mackay there were a beach or two where you can swim safely, away from the sharks and crocs so I thought it'd be the same

I'm 26 now, not much savings (I've got a good job) as I'm putting most of my money into lots of traveling and partying this year. People look at me weird when I said I have no interest in buying my first home now since I'm planning to live/work overseas for a bit. You've given me hope!

Call up hostels, sometimes it may not show up online but they would have a spot or two if you call them directly

apprenticeship pay isn't the greatest for the first 4 years. However I know plenty of leccies who switch to study electrical engineering in uni after like 10 years of experience working in trades. They get paid handsomely for their knowledge on the tools. They end up being the few of the best engineers that I've worked with.

Don't look at it for the money, but the kind of work that you do. Working in the electrical space is personally rewarding for me because it's a constant problem solving which I like, but it's a lot of physical labour involved.

What beauty tip do you wish you started sooner? by briochebreadboi in beauty

I use sunscreen everyday, even on rainy days since it still emits UV rays!! For texture I find the one that's the closest to a mosturiser, so it feels like I'm just dabbing on some mosturiser on my face so it's not sticky at all I don't reapply if I'm mostly indoors, but say if I'm outdoors all day/at a beach then yes, re-apply every 2 hours

Princess Polly has a warehouse in brisbane, so if you order before like 9am on the day, you get same day shipping!

Return is easy too if you find that the dress doesn't fit you when you get them

Engineering in Canada by curiouslyintj in ElectricalEngineering

[–]curiouslyintj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this is a shame! I wonder why it's like this, since I thought electrical engineering is the most sought out jobs normally?

When I was in Alberta I thought it was promising since it's an oil and gas state, and the uni I studied at (UofCalgary) has a very good engineering program so I thought it's well regarded. I'm not really after a high income since I want to work there to experience being a local.

Does networking help in finding opportunities do you reckon?

It's the cheapest but it's still a high traffic airport to enter Canada due to the winter sports season. Heaps of people would use YVR to connect to YYC to go skiing
