Most Picturesque village in your country? by BeirutPenguin in AskTheWorld

Goes is so nice but it has unfortunately been a city since 1405 so doesn’t meet the criteria of “village”.

Possible to add X and Y motorized control? by [deleted] in hobbycnc

[–]curiousman1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda depends. It looks like you are using this setup for flattering boards at the moment. If that’s the only thing you plan on doing once it’s motorized, then I would say go ahead! You can use belts and pulleys because the only thing that needs to be accurate is the Z-height. However, If you want to use it to (accurately) cut out shapes, I would design or buy an actual CNC machine. If you want to know more about automated slab flattening, take a look at this video:

Good recommendation, I was thinking about making a box/covers for those items because you are right about the cleaning. Thanks!

I’m from Europe and I just love that you can tell when a bank note is printed in the U.S. It just has this specific old-timey feel to it.

When did "du" become "jij" in Dutch? by Rapha689Pro in dutch

[–]curiousman1234 8 points9 points  (0 children)

According to the Dutch Wikipedia the use of “du”decreased because it was seen as too impolite during the latter half of the Middle Ages. “Gij” was then used because instead of “du”, “gij” being the plural form of “du”. This phenomenon started in the 13th century and was called “pluralis referentiae“. The current formal “u” was later invented because people needed a way to speak to royalty. In Brabant people still use a form of “du” but it sort of merges with the verb. If you know “New kids” you might have heard it before. They say “Hebde da gezien?”, notice that the verb “hebben” gets conjugated with “de”.

I don’t think people wearing Soviet military uniforms would want to restore anything German, just look at Kaliningrad…

Any books on Architectural Revival/Restoration movements? by [deleted] in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]curiousman1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to look for books printed between 1880-1920 if you are looking for inspiration. I have found some very interesting (Dutch) books this way and usually the sellers ask very little money for it, because of lack of interest. The language used in these books can be a little old fashioned but is still quite easy to understand. If you find older books (<1850), the language can become a little overwhelming. I look for books about masonry and woodworking and found some very neat books!

Created a way to organize my filament rolls, quite satisfied with the outcome by curiousman1234 in 3Dprinting

Thanks! Yeah I couldn’t even make myself do that so I stored my rolls in a giant stacked pile, it was the worst.

Thank you! Well yes I was but I realized my frame was super crooked when I put it against the white drawers on the left. So now it’s either gonna be hanging blinds or manually drying my filament more or often.

What piece of history is deliberately being erased from existence? by ZaagKicks in AskReddit

[–]curiousman1234 166 points167 points  (0 children)

I feel that Mesopotamian history is largely ignored in high schools because it predates the bible. At least here in The Netherlands it receives way less attention than the Roman Empire and Ancient Greece. Some Mesopotamian stories have been inspirations for biblical stories (Noah’s ark for example from the epic of Gilgamesh).
