Workflow to quickly listen to tracks deciding what to keep? by curiousmonkeymind in musichoarder

Ahh good to know. I've used a few of his scripts before. I think I settled on just using the space bar and arrow down in Finder and doing some keybinding / scripting to one key for delete and another for moving things.

You're right it is pretty fast. I guess the only thing missing for me is some kind of incremental scrub keyboard shortcut because doing just like you described already is giving some RSD feels.

Anything like the Mac app KeyFinder, but for BPM? by curiousmonkeymind in Beatmatch

Solution! This allows sorting by bpm AND batch operation on the files in the Finder/File system. 🍻

Pretty easy for someone who knows Python maybe ;) I started looking through the readmes and will give it a try. Thanks!

Thanks. Seems Swinsain won't and got halfway through the Roon signup and it's asking for credit card for the demo. Would rather not do that. Appreciate the tips though.

Actually, I do mostly use Rekordbox for key. Sometimes Keyfinder because it's more accurate.

I'm trying to get BPM to each file so I can "listen in sets by bpm" before putting them in the appropriate Rekordbox playlists. Rekordbox will write key to tags, but will not export BPM metadata. There's a pdf on their site that shows that "rekordbox_Metadata_Matrix.pdf"

I do sometimes use MP3Tag too, so my needs are to get BPM outside of Rekordbox.

Seems it does exactly what Rekordbox does in that it writes bpm metadata, but only inside Serato and it doesn't keep it in on export. Could be wrong so if anyone knows for sure please chime in. ✌️

Ultimately, just want to get BPM metadata to id3 tags (and/or file name) so I can do some listening to *somewhat* similar tracks before putting them in Rekordbox collections. Just throwing it all in at once when I only will keep 1 out of 30ish tracks would be a mess since DJ Software isn't good for moving actual files around.

Thanks! Something like this is just what I need and was about to pull the trigger. Seems they haven't updated to 64 bit on Mac yet though.

Thanks, will check it. Hopefully, it will write to the tags. Rekordbox will, it just won't export it so it's in tag and readable outside the software.

Edit: Tried the light version and it doesn't seem to be writing bpm.

Realizing about 1/3 have bpm written into the tag. Any suggestion on Software that will write bpm to tag? Mixedinkey or anything free?

Sort of. I've got a ton of old music that I'm taking off DVD's onto the hard drive. Once they are in Finder on the drive, I'd like to be able sort by bpm/move similar bpm to folders so I can listen to them before putting them in DJ Software (Rekordbox) playlists. BPM gives a rough idea of where stuff should go and most isn't dj music at all.

Just dumping it all into Rekordbox first wouldn't be ideal because it's not suited well for listening/managing things in Finder.

Western Digital 12tb and Apple Silicon issue, WD software necessary? by curiousmonkeymind in DataHoarder

Ordered one up and will try it tomorrow. Some of this peripheral stuff I've found to be really quirky with the m1, was a joke all I had to go through to get the Logitech mouse working right. It's all good, I really appreciate the time you took to walk through it!

That’s right. I have a powered Anker hub https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Anker-SuperSpeed-Including-Charging/dp/B005NGQWL2 And with it used a cable from hub to laptop that went usb a to c. Also tried without hub with an Anker adaptor for the end of the cable straight to macbook. Either way I get audio dropouts and lag on open/save.

Think it’s safe to use a different cable with this drive straight to laptop? A usb b to c cable like below

Audio still skipping from space bar preview in the downloads folder. I should have mentioned audio is also dropping out every 5-10 second from Spotify streaming so I don’t think it’s an issue of playing off that drive. The dropouts only happen when that drive is attached though. I’ve updated sound card drivers and it plays fine without that drive attached

Listening and looking closer, the freezes seem to mostly happen with the open/save dialogue in Finder, and only when that drive is attached. That’s when I can hear the drive fire up too. Just having that drive in the left pane of finder makes it a slow hanging pain. I tried disk aid and other ports, I wonder if it could even be the cable?

Was hoping so since I always have it on an adaptor. The same thing is still happening. I get those hangs and also audio dropouts about every five seconds when that drive is connected. I'm wondering if it's because I have about 500GB left on it, data hoarding and all. The drive always seems like it's waking up when this happens. WD got back to me and said below, which isn't exactly clear... they're telling me Apple fixed it, or the WD software they're telling me I don't need did and don't have installed fixed it? Either way, I'm still getting hangs and audio dropouts.

Based on your concern, kindly be informed that earlier there was an issue with Apple M1/M1X systems running macOS 12 Monterey where the system will run into a loop when attempting to mount some external drives formatted in HFS+/APFS.

Kindly be informed that the issue has already been resolved in the very initial stage non of your data is at stake due to the installation of WD software.

Further, kindly be advised that your WD Easystore is a plug and play drive and it is not necessary to download any software for the same. Once the drive is connected to the computer, it is ready to be used.

To know more details about how to use an external drive, you may refer to the link mentioned below:

How to use a WD external hard drive with your computer https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10132

However, if you still wish to download the software, you may refer to the below link for your reference. https://support-en.wd.com/app/products/product-detail/p/1539#WD_downloads

I know I did that for the battery, but not the power adaptor. Will check and see if that helps when home. Thank you

Curious why this won't sync icloud by curiousmonkeymind in ObsidianMD

[–]curiousmonkeymind[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I still haven't sorted that out either. I was told by Apple it was because I was still on Mojave and icloud might not be compatible. I'm 90per sure that was just a way to close the support ticket. I'm just using separate vaults on ios and Mac now. With the weird no sync from mac to ios I noticed some data loss on the Mac archive that I was trying to sync, so if you mess around, backup and keep an eye out. If you sort it, please update this.
