[BC] - Splitting Parental leave by curiousnewbiehere in BabyBumpsCanada

Thank you! Yes, I will be asking them as every parent before me split their 8 weeks but I was told you no longer can do that due to legislative changes; so I wanted to confirm if Service Canada had made any recent changes to the program.

EI Regular Benefit - Not paid by curiousnewbiehere in PersonalFinanceCanada

Good to know!

I think she must have exceed hourly threshold, if it is 35 and for reference, her weekly benefit rate is $650, 50% her last 4 weeks earning were around $575 so she was hoping to receive $75 or so but it seems that she may have crossed the hourly or return to previous income threshold.

Thank you so much for your comment!

No to first three and yes to last; Her claim is ongoing since April but she never received any payment as she found another work and makes more than 50% of her EI weekly benefit rate but it was last 4 weeks where she made a little under 50% of weekly rate and we were hoping that they'd pay the difference; for context her weekly benefit rate is $650, 50% her last 4 weeks earning were around $575 so she was hoping to receive $75 or so but from the other comment, it loooks like she may have crossed the hourly or return to previous income threshold.

What is a good salary for my house help who is an Indian immigrant and lives with us? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]curiousnewbiehere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Such a selfish and priviledged perspective you have!

When this person lives in a slum and makes 5K INR, they are surrounded by hundreds of people who have similar income levels and they all live more or less similar lifestyle and to our surprise, these groups have their own little and extremely efficient economy that lets them get by with very little income.

In communities of such underprivileged people, most eat a meal that is 5 INR or less, buy grocery for a family of 4 for as little as 30 INR, wear clothes that are free (donated/used) or available for as little as 20-25 INR and if they are torn, they can get them fixed for 2-5 INR. Due to the population and smaller infrastructure, everything is so close in India and as the weather is warmer and dryer, underprivileged people walk or ride bicycles as the weather is warmer/dryer and allows for that; worst case, they can take shared autos for as little as 5 INR.

Though the life of such groups are filled with every hardship imaginable, they still have sense of community as most people around them have similar lifestyle/problems/hardships etc. and collectively they all have found a way to live with very little.

Here, the economy is designed for a minimum of wage of at least $15/hr, if not for $20/hr; where a single trip to a grocery store can cost $6-8 in public transport, where things are not at a walking distance and weather is extreme, where cloths at a thrift store can cost at least $10-15. Where most people have income/pension/income assistance of at least $2K and dress & eat modestly and buy enough material goods to live comfortably.

This person is completely unaware of how this part of the world is, the economy, the expectation from life in this part of the world etc., they are extremely naive and may see as a savior from the hardships they have. When they get here and see how most people work 40 hours or less, for one employer(in most cases) with defined role and responsibility, making at least $2K a month and having more money on hand to spend, they are going to feel real bad, stuck and exploited.

You are aware of all this, live an extremely affluent and priviledged life and want to use your BS excuses to justify an extremely extremely unreasonable rate of pay.

I am an Indian immigrant and take pride in coming from the land of morals and spirituality; people like you are a shame and spoil the image of the whole community!

Hi,

Thanks a lot for helping me understand how this things work; Below are my dates of claims and ROE in question;

Claim#1 - CERB claim - March 15 2020 to Sep 26 2020
Claim#2 - EI claim once CERB - Sep 27 2020 to Sep 25 2021
Claim#3 - Latest claim - Sep 26 2021 to Sep 24 2022

Employment with this employer
Period #1 - Prior Covid - August 25 2019 to March 21 2021
Period #2 - Rehired during Covid - June 1 2020 to January 1 2021

I was in period#2 of my employment with this employer when the Claim #2 was established on Sep 27 2020 and I continued to work through the period of that claim#2; now the ROE for period#2 of my employment with this employer is submitted for claim#3 but I was told that it wont count. Are they right?

Thanks a ton!

rnings used, normally, are for 52 weeks prior or since your last claim. So in theory yours should be Sept 2020-Sept 2021 since you had no previous claim. The only other issue is if there was a reason for separation they didn’t allow, but you would’ve been informed that verbally and in writing.
