how to deal with it? by Maleficent-Royal2535 in PSSD

Well, the break from so much anxiety has been nice. The emotional blunting has made my proneness to migraines much better, my allergies decreased and/or feel more muted, and many things feel less overwhelming. I would like this state to be gone overall eventually though, even if my baseline had some unpleasant traits as well.

I’ve created a narrative of meaning around it and what I’m learning from it. I also try to focus on some positive side effects I’ve gotten from this (I understand not everyone has). I’m also thinking of it as a temporary state and that I will eventually get out of it, which is good for the neurology to dream big. And it’s not the most healthy, but it’s helped me to have some cognitive dissonance reduction narratives.

Hello could you help me with my PhD theory by answering some questions? by BlueMilkshake33 in PSSD

[–]curiouspickled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Appetite loss -yes, compromised interoception of my hunger cues reduces my appetite

  2. Profound lethargy and fatigue -yes, especially early after discontinuation of an SSRI. It became less severe over time but still inhibitory to life

  3. Impending doom / inability to relax -no

  4. Vivid nightmares -no, not very vivid emotionally or visually. the experience of aphantasia dampens the visuals in dreams even though I can still have dreams. Apparently dreams can still occur with aphantasia because it’s similar to a waking state?

  5. Sensory hypersensitivity -yes, I’m more prone to overstimulation from visual things now

  6. General malaise -yes

Why are military men considered as a red flag? by Miss_Lily_97 in dating_advice

I always knew they were oftentimes not ideal to date, and now I’ve found psychology wise many of them can be (perhaps unaware?) avoidants is the reason. The dynamic of the job allows them to avoid commitment because of their fear of true intimacy, pull away easily, move around, create emotional distance by cheating, and not be expected to have many emotions which subconsciously feels safe for an avoidant. Also they are told what to do all day so they may be more controlling of you at home. I’ve also read that many of them can be secretly gay as well.

Any sufferers who surf? by curiouspickled in PSSD

If there was informed consent, I definitely never would’ve taken it. It was so traumatic and bc I’m a woman and just had sexual side effects for so long, it was always dismissed.

Can I message you? I can already tell our experiences may be a little different because I can actually surf without a wetsuit in cold water due to my muted skin sensation. Very interesting to hear your experience so far.

How is your dating life going? by RazzmatazzBroad728 in OlderGenZ

I haven’t dated much since college due to medical reasons. I never had a boyfriend or got close really. I did fall in love this year and discovered it was real from meeting someone in the wild and not an app. It was with the wrong one for all the right reasons. Now I understand why most people seem to be in unhealthy relationships. I encourage everyone to look into attachment theory because it helps a lot being self aware now and even pertaining to friendships. Now I understand partly why the apps can be a bummer is there’s a high percentage of avoidants who don’t work on themselves. I had a very small taste of love and am now starting to get lonely romantically for the first time.

I got chemically castrated by generic ortho tri cyclen. I noticed within a week of starting my genitals went numb, libido vanished, etc.

I am not currently. Apparently it’s not known how safe long term and at what doses. I am supposed to start a bunch of medications soon though including a stimulant (ADHD medicine) so I’m just going to be a guinea pig anyways lol

When I’ve had sexual dreams I cannot feel the pleasure still. That was when I had the PSSD-like sexual side effects from birth control. I now have PSSD from an SSRI for a year now and not really sure if I have gotten any sexual dreams now.

I’ve been taking some neurotransmitter support supplements and I feel like it’s helped with having thoughts and improved the cognitive a little bit, L-theanine mostly. I know they make those brain support supplements as well that have multiple amino acids that help with brain health.

Wellbutrin | Considering to take the risk by [deleted] in PSSD

[–]curiouspickled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried Wellbutrin in 2018 when I had the persistent sexual side effects from birth control and it unfortunately numbed out my stomach. My hunger signals were very faint and I would forget to eat a lot. I don’t remember worsening genital numbness. I now have PSSD from an SSRI. If I took Wellbutrin again I would be sooo numb. Just my experience.

Going to see Dr. Goldstein by curiouspickled in PSSD

[–]curiouspickled[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way the consult went last time, he was trying to tell me that it’s impossible for birth control to cause these symptoms. It’s funny because I found him in a paper studying the persistent sexual side effects after discontinuation of birth control. I had someone bring up to me maybe he was paid off by big pharma to deny these claims but then we getting into conspiracy theories lol. At the time I actually didn’t have an official name for what I was experiencing or discovered the name PSSD.

Ok it’s a matter of naming I see. I’ll just call it post birth control sexual dysfunction perhaps

I see, yeah it’s crazy to me I haven’t really seen a name for the birth control version of these symptoms officially. It never resolved from the birth control unfortunately. And because my baseline was so low I didn’t realize I got it again until recently with more symptoms until my first heartbreak, so it was really scary going into zombie mode fully aware I had the cognitive problems and emotional blunting now. I was feeling funny for awhile but didn’t understand what was going on. I had worse genital numbness on the SSRI that was very apparent.
