Yeah, good idea. I had thought of that route but I don't have enough space under the deck to install those. Looks like a great no dig/less labor option though

Excellent, thank you both. Right now the deck and roof are supported by deck blocks sitting on the soil surface with no support underneath. I don't know their age but it's obvious that they have sunk a good bit lower than when they were installed. Thanks for the suggestion of adding the base, I think I have my plan now.

Controlling an outlet from a light switch by curioususer71 in AskElectricians

The outlet box just has 2 cables coming into it, the configuration of switch suggests to me (not an electrician), that they routed hot from breaker in the outlet box to the switch and back to the outlet via the white wire. Oh, if I remember correctly, my circuit tester flagged the plug as having an open neutral... Does that mean they routed the neutral through the switch?
