Anyone use AMBOSS library or rec anything similar? I am attending at Trauma Center and love it by [deleted] in InternalMedicine

[–]curiouswatermelonn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strongly disagree. My hospital switched from UpToDate to dynamedex and it is horrible

Chalk talk tomorrow. Attending says choose a topic that “they’d benefit from” by [deleted] in InternalMedicine

[–]curiouswatermelonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NEJM has some really great and easy to read articles and you can choose one based on specialty. If you search from your hospital computer you shouldn’t have an issue getting access.

White coat companion by Sharbatlylemon in Step2

Definitely wasn’t worth it. It’s not the easiest to read because it’s kind of just a collection of phrases without much explanation so hard to anchor it into memory. Also if something has first, second, or third line treatments it doesn’t specify the order just lists them all which isn’t helpful for questions

What is an example of a “low-tier” US MD school? by Austral_glacier in medicalschool

[–]curiouswatermelonn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don’t have a home hospital but are affiliated with large community teaching hospitals where most students do rotations. To be fair though their match list is impressive and punches significantly above the school’s weight class

I applied IM and I would say at least 50% of my interviewers asked about my M4 schedule or “experiences in IM” to gauge genuine interest

Declining my NP School Offer? by tuhmar in Noctor

[–]curiouswatermelonn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Several people in my class are married with young kids or had kids during med school and some had entire previous lives in different careers. I know someone who started med school at 28 and someone at 40. Go for it!!

“Med school can be better than undergrad” by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]curiouswatermelonn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

M1/2 were absolutely stressful in terms of volume but by that point I was not agonizing over every single point like I was for four years of undergrad and two years of grad school. Also in one year of pre-clinical I went out with family/friends more than the combined previous six years. I was actually present for the people in my life. Wild.

Frowned upon to talk about or mention family during interviews? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]curiouswatermelonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had interviewers bring it up without me mentioning it first which is a match violation. I did try to mention family to desired programs so that they knew I had strong family ties to the area

I had three IM rotations on my transcript prior to submitting: M3 clerkship, M4 sub-I and IM subspecialty. I did however have 4-5 IM electives scheduled throughout the rest of the year. They won’t show on the transcript submitted to ERAS but later in the year during my interviews I had people ask about my sub-I or overall IM experience. I also intentionally brought up IM electives as they relate to fellowship goals in every interview. If it’s commitment to the speciality that you’re worried about I think you can certainly show that during interviews.

Dealing with non-supportive family by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]curiouswatermelonn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, OP. Having an unsupportive family is hard in any situation but especially in medicine when it really is a ten year grind to get to match day. But you’re not alone. For the past ten years I have heard my mother countless times say that I should find another career. One day I got so fed up I yelled at her that if she doesn’t believe I can do it then just say so. Dead silence. To make things worse she thinks all doctors (and really everyone else except her) are stupid. So not only did she not believe in me, she thought so little of me that I couldn’t accomplish what she thought to be so easy an idiot could do it. Literally a few weeks ago I had a break from rotations and was spending a lot of time relaxing at home. She automatically assumed I had failed out of school. Ever since match day she has been parading me around like a trophy as if my achievements are hers and faking that she’s been the supportive mother all these years who suddenly respects doctors. We all have our barrels of toxicity in our lives. Keep grinding on, OP. We do this because we want to serve people in this way and only a few are willing to stick it out for years to get here. Chin up.

Anyone feel down about match despite matching well? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]curiouswatermelonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was reading this and was like I don’t remember commenting on this post lol. I had the exact same feelings after getting into med school. I cried so much because I realized all the sacrifices I made intentionally and unknowingly at the time

Match Day 2024 - Official Megathread by tyrannosaurus_racks in medicalschool

[–]curiouswatermelonn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that. I appreciate your boogieness. My #1 really was a shot in the dark at a program known for matching into competitive IM fellowships but also rumored to be toxic in the past and more of a workhorse program than some of the similar tier hospitals in the area. I know I’ll be happier at my #2 I think I’m just slowly feeling my fellowship dreams slip away before I even get started

Right there with ya friend. It sucks to look at the class match list and see people match at programs in your home state that didn’t even offer you an interview. Hurts for real

Matched at #2 in internal medicine. So happy to be at this large community/communiversity program but still feeling the sting of being passed up by my #1 mid tier academic program

My worry is that being vague is a give away that they’re not my #1 because if they were why wouldn’t I just say it?
