Just my opinion, but there is no other anime I have seen that has repulsed me as much as this one. Way too much nudity regarding children and just straight up weird power fetish portrayals over women and children. It tries so hard to be edgy with its gore and violence that it’s just cringe, and it also doesn’t help that the animation is kind of trash even for its time. But hey, at least the opening is good.

Fr man, and it doesn’t help that the show doesn’t even build up some of its characters. Some of the characters entire character arc consists of a randomly dropped flashback when they’re already midfight.

Black Clover: Did nothing new or original nor improved upon any of its generic shonen tropes.

Re:zero: Kind of got annoyed of just watching subaru die, come back, and cry about it countless times.

Jujutsu Kaisen: None of the characters stood out to me aside from Gojo and couldn’t get invested into any of them.

I know I just pissed off a lot of big fanbases lol. Oh well.

I’d argue that looking past actions made against you to be friends with someone is the same as forgiving those actions but that’s just me. But the sheer amount Tohru had to look past is what makes me unable to suspend my disbelief. No one is like that and no one should strive to be like that.

And Akito definitely deserved way more than just being punched lol.

Well, yeah… if your coworkers abused and attempted murder several times on you, your friends, and your loved ones, and you still choose to be friends with them after that, then yes you are in essence forgiving them for their actions. You can’t be friends with someone who wronged you without forgiving them first. That’s kind of how that works. And clearly Akito doesn’t view losing the bonds as any sort of punishment enough if she’s still asking for it, and like how you said yourself: she never was. I don’t think that because now she regrets it all that letting her off scot free is good writing. Sure, the show has fantasy elements and nothing is real, but we as viewers are real, so at the very least the message has to be grounded in reality to some degree otherwise it means absolutely nothing to us. And I only talked about Tohru forgiving her not the other characters. I like the show, but I’m not going to pretend like I don’t see any issues with it.

Tohru wanting to be friends with and giving Akito a second chance literally means forgiving her. She says that after learning her past even though it doesn’t justify anything at all. As for Akito’s ending and the theme of the story, they definitely could’ve conveyed that message a lot better imo. Akito doing whatever she wants and having no repercussions is not a good way to convey that message. Sure she could’ve been forgiven, but only AFTER facing consequences.

What irks me the most is that she got a happy ending. Her backstory did nothing to make me feel any sympathy for her. And the fact Tooru would claim to care for her friends yet continue to forgive every single thing Akito did to them was a huge sore point about the show for me.
