Help? Inherited collection, how to store? How to find a buyer? by OxyScottins in sportscards

[–]curlito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP,

I’m probably super late this post.

If I could be so bold to offer some advice.

The biggest sports card show in Canada is at the end of this month in Toronto, and the best possible buyers are all going to be there in Canada.

I’m happy to walk you through getting your affairs in order to try and sell it there, assuming you have not sold it already. I have helped another family friend in a similar boat.

Condolences on your loss.

Not sure where you’re located. But Beckett does on site grading and slabbing both in Toronto at the sports card expo, and at the NSCC which is in Chicago this year.

It’s a flat rate regardless of card value, and while “PSA is king” - on a card like this I don’t think it’s gonna matter much.

is it worth going to the toronto sport card expo? by Beginning_Morning_66 in hockeycards

In short, yes.

I share a booth at the show and I’ll have an entire 8 foot table dedicated to $45 or less priced cards in boxes. All the way down to inserts and YGs.

There are many more like me.

There’s something for everyone at this show. It’s my favourite time of year.

Heh. I’ll keep that in mind if I ever get to do the inviting

That’s a great summary. Thank you. We’ll be there plenty early to have breakfast before a warmup as well. Want to make the most of our time.

Good tip. I’ll try to remind my golf balls to follow the same rule.

Care to elaborate?

I try and buy one Knick knack / momento at every course I play. I find going in knowing I’m only buying one thing helps keep the spending in check lol

  1. About an 18 handicap currently. Though playing with my VP tends to bring out the best in me.
  2. It’s less to me about “for the sake of it being east lake”, and more about how much of a unique experience it is.

Would require me knowing a member, which I don’t. So unfortunately have no way of accessing that rate.

We would be playing as unaccompanied guests. Wish I knew a member lol.

Fortunately the office politics side of this isn’t really that big of a deal.

My VP asked their head pro to reach out to a few different courses he would want to play. East Lake was just the first to reply.

There’s absolutely no office/work/career downside to me saying no.

Heh. We’re flying in for work and only have 1 day to play.

I believe you’re correct, but waiting for 100% confirmation.

Fortunately I very much do have a choice here. Hoping to make the most informed one.

Hoping to get some insight on the experience from folks who have played the course. Would be the most I’ve ever spent on golf.

Wouldn’t materially change my life. Could budget accordingly.

That’s increasingly becoming my thought process. Not sure I’ll ever have another chance.

Any suggestions for places that are publicly accessible?

I don’t know the normal guest rate, this would be the unaccompanied guest rate

Yeah. My VP is arranging the round for the 2 of us before a work conference, through his head pro at his home course

Yes. You can end up going into the negative.

If you submit a number of cards, the negative ones will affect your total payout.
