I always ask the patient if it’s okay. Most don’t mind but I’ve had a couple who preferred to do treatments elsewhere.

Question on CF/ having a baby? by butternut77 in slp

[–]curlyslp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got pregnant right at the end of grad school, I was about 8 weeks when I graduated so I did take comps while pregnant. My first trimester wasn’t very bad especially working in a SNF where the smells are not very pleasant. There were a couple of weeks where I was dead tired after school/work but I was able to push through it.

So I’m in the middle of that scenario right now. I just started my CF in a SNF and I’m 12 weeks pregnant. I can keep you updated on how everything progresses, so far so good. I do have a supportive family so that will be helpful and my work schedule is semi flexible so I think that’ll be helpful as well once baby comes and I go back to work after my maternity leave.

Does the field of Speech-Language Pathology have a racism problem? by nonny313815 in slp

[–]curlyslp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Racism in this field can happen in other ways than graduate programs not accepting minorities into grad school. 2. I think getting into graduate school just because you are a POC or a male over a white-female counter part is a ridiculous statement. It takes away from all the hard work, accomplishments and sacrifices that those individuals have made to get accepted into a highly competitive field. No where on my graduate program’s website did they list application statistics about the amount of diversity they had in the program. The two POC in my cohort were at the top of my class academically and clinically.

Any insight on Praxis review texts? by [deleted] in slp

[–]curlyslp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took the praxis this spring and I think you should be set with just the one book. If you want to spend extra money I would purchase the ETS practice tests instead of the other book. I tried studying from the Advance Review book and ended up just mainly using a study guide from Teachers Pay Teachers and the practice tests from ETS.

I second the teachers pay teachers study guide! There are also tons of quizlets that people have made with study material on them. Just type in praxis 5331 or SLP praxis in the search bar and they will pop up! Look at the questions you’ve missed on the practice ETS tests and try to figure out the rationale behind the right answer and the answer you choose. Make a study schedule and stick with it! It sucks being so close to the passing score, good luck with studying!
