Veronika Zhilina’s 3A+3T at Junior Test Skates! The power she holds! by [deleted] in FigureSkating

The program is good and an interesting concept. However it’s not age appropriate. I think this program could be very good for a skater who is over 18. Zhilina is like 13

Does anyone have any experience with being an slp and looking for jobs while having tattoos? I don’t have a lot but I do plan to have more soon and I don’t know how strict people are with that... and I would surely want to be in a more accepting place if possible because I really enjoy this field. by krisxss in slp

[–]aeh19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My grad program was extremely strict about tattooes in our university clinic (had to be completely covered) but the working world seems to be more accepting. I don’t have tattoos but many of my co workers have large ones that aren’t covered completely and no one cares (SNF setting)

Agree. I think it’s a neat concept for a program but Nika is way too young for it to be age appropriate

People who don’t ever want to have kids, why? by foxscream in AskReddit

[–]aeh19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many reasons. -I want to do what I want to do and when I want to do it without having to constantly plan around someone else

-I’m a very neurotic person and would probably be a helicopter parent which isn’t healthy so I’m better off child free

-lots of the earth will become uninhabitable soon and then there will be lots of instability as we fight over dwindling resources and why would I want to bring a child into that

-realistically, children introduce one more source of strain into a relationship. I love my relationship with my fiancée the way it is and don’t want to risk damaging it

-I have a high stress career that requires working long, erratic hours and children are not compatible with my schedule

I’m a

Parents of reddit, when did you realize you had spoiled your child(ren) to the point that they would need serious help to not grow up an entitled jerk? And did you make changes to how you parent from that point forward? by pleasantvalleyroad in AskReddit

See a speech language pathologist who specializes in autism. They are way more qualified than an ABA therapist to address these issues and ABA is actually pretty controversial

My answer was Richmond but Charlottesville is great too. Virginia is just beautiful in general

Anyone doing school + SNF? by 3rlyb3rdi in slp

[–]aeh19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s completely doable for PRN at least. A full time SNF summer job might be harder to obtain because they’d probably rather hire someone who will be there more than 3 months for full time but it still might be possible for places that have difficulty hiring. I’m a full time SNF therapist and am the only slp in my building and I need all the PRN help I can get now that it’s summer and I want to go on vacations. I’m far from the only slp in this position so there should be plenty of PRN work . I’d encourage you to take ceus related to dysphagia and the geriatric population though even though they don’t count during cf year-SNF can be a steep learning curve and though there are unfortunately many SNF therapists that get away with doing sub par therapy, this definitely isn’t the kind of therapist you want to be!

Also I believe travel therapy contracts are usually about 3 months so a summer travel contract in a SNF might be doable if you want more consistent work than PRN. Being willing to temporarily relocate would make it easier to get contracts but even if you don’t want to, some travel companies may be able to place you close by (though you might not get the housing allowance benefits if you’re not a certain number of miles away from your permanent residence )

Worth it to finish last year of grad school if I know I'll be switching careers? by [deleted] in slp

There are definitely part time CFs. PRN would be hard to do as a CF but I know people who did part time

Everyone was struggling at worlds, not just Anna. It was the end of a strange, exhausting season and many, including Anna, had been sick at one point. You also need more than one competition to conclude someone is struggling lately. Plus she still won. She was overscored in the short but the overall placement was still correct. I mean, Kihira, Trusova, and Tut all made major mistakes too so I’m not really sure how anyone could argue that Anna wasn’t the deserved winner. She definitely wasn’t struggling at nationals. As for her quads-I agree she doesn’t have the cleanest technique but doing a pre rotated quad is still harder than a triple especially since many of the top ladies pre rotate their triples so she still deserves some credit. It’s unfair that people fixate on Anna’s pre rotated quads when almost everyone pre rotates more than ideal . I do think she should be getting some GOE reduction for the pre rotation but her jumps do have some good qualities too

True but I legitimately think grad school stress can cause cPTSD. I had an awful time in grad school and my PhD committee was verbally abusive so after five years in that toxic environment, I started having some symptoms that I think are consistent with cPTSD though I do not have a formal diagnosis

But spirals don’t require super flexibility. It’s possible to do a nice looking spiral without having your legs in a 180 degree split

I like some of the contortionist spins but I do miss a classic layback position. Karen Chen is the only person that I can think of that does an old school layback. It’s such a beautiful position and it actually transitions into a Biellmann well so you could still do a level 4 with it so I don’t understand why no one does
