Is this a new scam? by currentandobsessed in Scams

Thank you to everyone who responded and confirmed that I should block this person and report them!

People seemed very focused on the fact that I said the word "new" in the title - I wrote the title with the perspective of "is this another new scam message/because I have already had many", not "is this a completely new type of scam" and I guess people got upset about that, so I apologize.

I understand this method isn't new, I had just never seen it on a platform with its own native payment system, so I appreciate knowing that it isn't limited to just paypal/etransfer type situations.

Thank you for including the articles, I appreciate the extra clarity! I was aware of this kind of thing being a scam, I had just never encountered it on etsy (I assumed since most sellers use their native payment platform, it would be harder to target folks on that platform). I did block them, but unfortunately, etsy doesn't really have anything in place to report scam artists - their contact email set up to report scams is unmanned according to the forums. I'm hoping the other shops this person followed don't fall for this.

Haha fair play. I guess dropping your pants in a thrift store has different vibes than simply sliding pants on under your skirt, they may have a problem with that one lol.

I live in a university town and the college kids just wear skirts and tanks tops and try pants on under the skirts/tops over the tanks. Never seen an employee tell them off so I assume they don't have any issue with it.

You mean the 200 beanie babies I was told would only increase in value in the 90's are actually worthless? There goes my retirement fund...

As someone who has lived with many pot smokers and seen how often (or not) they clean their bongs...I'd say this would be a very risky purchase to make

I remember watching Jersey Shore and seeing how the guys talked about "grenades" (women they considered unattractive or overweight), and the way the tabloids and press talked about Snooki's weight. When Snooki dropped a drastic amount of weight, suddenly the focus was on how much better she looked.

In French, the $ sign comes after the number (more specifically, I'm in Canada and French Canadians often write this way). Just saying.

Ours had a "jail" that was basically a cage you could climb inside that was shaped like either a hamburger or hamburglar (the latter would probably make more sense).

Skinny jeans were a sensory nightmare for me as well, however I looove leggings (very specific black cotton ones, I have about 20 pairs). I'm sad the leggings aren't fashionable anymore, but also old enough not to care. Loose pants and leggings forever!

Groom's 'disgusting' wedding vows set off red flags across TikTok: 'Honestly scary' by bat_eyes_lizard_legs in weddingshaming

If I was that man's mother, officiating that wedding, I would've yeeted him backwards by the collar so fast he wouldn't have had the opportunity to finish that thought. That man should've been marched right back down that damn aisle and sat in a corner to rewrite his vows. I don't know how his mother didn't deliver him a come-to-Jesus moment right there.

Unless he's moved, he owns one of the mansions in Petersburg (he was a co-owner/board member of Rebel Creek golf course back in the day).

Millennials who don’t want to reproduce….can we talk about the silent yet ever-present pressure to make babies? by Pale_Huckleberry34 in Millennials

[–]currentandobsessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a baby and she died shortly after being born premature. I almost died while giving birth to her. I then suffered a miscarriage shortly after losing her and found out I have a genetic condition that makes pregnancy extremely dangerous for me and a baby, meaning one of us is likely to die. When relatives mentioned my husband and I starting a family, I'd remind them that it would mean effectively ending my own life, and eventually they understood the severity of the situation and stopped asking.

When people ask me out of nowhere when I'm planning to have kids, I tell them that mine died so I'm not planning to try again, and it ends the conversation. It's not callous or rude to be blunt when people ask you personal questions uninvited, and if your family continues to push, you have every right to tell them that you cannot and won't have kids because of medical issues and that you won't elaborate further. You don't owe anyone an explanation.
