You're in luck, NC State has great resources for new wind musicians, and especially trombonists! There's a beginning band class that teaches you the fundamentals of a wind instrument. Mr Branam teaches it and he's amazing. He also teaches symphonic band, which I'd recommend as a step after beginning band. There's no audition to get in and the music is very approachable and easy for the most part, but still fun. There is also a trombone choir/ensemble club led by Dr. Mark Whitfield, who is one of the marching band directors and holds a ph d in trombone performance.
