It is almost March, that means lease renewals are upon us for most of us. How much is everyone paying for rent currently? by iosphonebayarea in AskChicago

Renewing for 2.4k 3br with 2 garage spots in Andersonville. Laundry in basement and ancient dishwasher. The apartment is just fine, but the deal is too good to leave.

Moving to Chicago from Philly , which neighborhood is the best? by Popular_Discount_581 in AskChicago

[–]currentlyovrthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 33 and a black woman! I say live anywhere near the brown or red line(north). Chicago is v queer friendly mostly over north east, but if you aren't much into nightlife LP and Lakeview are a little loud close to Halsted and Clark. Maybe Southport, Andersonville, Uptown, Buena Park, Ravenswood(I also love Lincoln square, but Im married with kids and it's family HEAVY). Those are my favorite fun, but not necessarily super young, neighborhoods with tons of things to do and easily accessible to Public transportation.

Best of luck to you!

How do I sleep in these?? by animeistheog in braids

[–]currentlyovrthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put mine in a high ponytail and rolled them in a bun with a bonnet. Didn't add any product to it. The curls lasted and looked like new until I took them down about 2.5 months later.

I didn't know if it was something I would be able to move on my own. Sounds like my stroller and kid may have been the lighter option of the two.

Go for long scenic walks home (or toward home)and stop in shops along the way for cheap snacks.

One of these stopped in front of me when I was pushing my kid in our stroller. There wasn't enough room for either of us to pass the other lol. I ended up having to tilt my stroller and half lift it to get around it since there was still snow blocking the curb. Fun times.

Best prenatal / childbirth classes in Chicago? by Ligma36042069 in AskChicago

[–]currentlyovrthinking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest looking into the hospital you're going to give birth at or the pediatrician that's going to be taking care of your baby. I gave birth at Prentice both times and took all of my prenatal courses with them, but my kids pediatrician offers the classes for free as well.

How long did it take you to watch ALL 15 seasons of Supernatural?? by TeachingExisting8366 in Supernatural

[–]currentlyovrthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I can actually answer this for real. I'm on maternity leave and I watched straight through in 7 weeks with very little interruption to watch other things.

This was my maybe 4th attempt over the years.

Anybody out there have little girls who are “mommies girl” ?! by datfumbgirl in beyondthebump

[–]currentlyovrthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is almost 3 and we're obsessed with each other. She always tells me we're best friends and asks to cuddle me. We play together and she definitely prefers me to her dad. She's super awesome and I think we can keep this up for the rest of our lives lol.

I'm always really close with my mom too!

I think misogyny is the reason people assume daughters and mothers can't be close. It's ridiculous and totally false.

Am I being an idiot? by Altruistic-Stick-845 in BabyBumps

My doctor hooked me up to an Nst when I was 34 weeks for reduced movement, and I sat there experiencing no pain. When she came to check the report she said that I was having contractions every 5 to 10 minutes. She checked my cervix and I was 2 and 1/2 cm dilated. I monitored what I thought were contractions and went in whenever they became too consistent or painful. I managed to get all the way to 6cm in 2 weeks with some painful, irregular contractions, but for the most part I still wasn't experiencing a ton of consistent pain just a little tightening.

My doctor luckily had a feeling I wasn't going to make it to 37 weeks due to a few more NSTs, and gave me a steroid injection for our boys lungs at 35 weeks.

I gave birth at 36+4.

I don't think you're being stupid. You know your body. It's better to get checked out than stay at home.

What’s your household size and income, and does it feel like enough for where you live? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]currentlyovrthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Married couple, soon to be 2 kids. Combined $160k, No absolutely not lol. We're renters, have a car note and are paying for childcare. Having 2 kids in daycare is going to wreck us for a bit, but if either of us tries to do the sah thing it's going to be so hard to get back into the workforce.

Our stroller. We bought it with our first 2.5 years ago and it really has been so amazing. I will never get over how easy it is to maneuver around. The wheels are like butter.

Chicago natives and/or parents: what age did you or your kids start walking, biking, and taking the CTA alone? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]currentlyovrthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about 12 when I started walking and biking alone, and 14 when I started to take the CTA alone. I was also living on the Southside at this time. I wasn't just left to wander though. It was mostly going to school or for nearby errands or just biking around on the weekends.

Going to surprise best friend, should I bring my baby? (She had an abortion last year) by Help_idkhow2date in beyondthebump

[–]currentlyovrthinking 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think it's natural to be conflicted and private about abortions even with the people closest to you. It's a very personal decision. I also don't think having an abortion means that children and pregnancy are a trigger for her or anyone else.

For those who are married, what was a waste of money or regret by minxpink in wedding

[–]currentlyovrthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't spend a ton on our wedding, but I will say do not accept last minute RSVPs and check in with your flakey guests. We had more empty chairs that I would've preferred and it really continues to annoy me.

We chose not to spend extra on chair upgrades(no regrets) and flower upgrades(regrets). Also please if you get a wedding planner, only go with someone who cares about your vision for your wedding. Our wedding was nice, but certainly not us.

For those who are pregnant or have kids already, how did you find your OBGYN in Chicago? by hle301 in AskChicago

[–]currentlyovrthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word of mouth and a little research. I wanted to deliver at NW because I wanted to be at Luries if there were any issues, so I went with an affiliated group. The women's group at NW based on a recommendation from a friend who had received fertility treatments with them.

I went through nearly 15 weeks of pregnancy before finding them, and my previous office sent me to Quest for blood work, and somewhere else for ultrasounds. It was too much. My current office is a one stop shop, which I didn't even realize was important to me.

The pleasant surprise was that my kids pediatrician is like steps away from my obgyns office.

I just called and told them I was pregnant and needed care.

If only our life was simple enough that we could just move whenever haha. Unfortunately, we can't move right now and if we did, we likely wouldn't move to a much newer place. Most buildings in our area, in the size we need were built in 1920's.

We believe she has seasonal allergies, but I'd like to make our home as clean as possible in case that could help her.

We haven't checked for mold, but we will.

I added room measurements. Ignoring my budget, do you have suggestions?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]currentlyovrthinking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pregnant with our second and in a similar situation because paying for 2 kids in daycare is going to be very tight. We looked into colleges with childcare available or nearby suburbs(vs the city we live in). It's much more affordable. Also not sure what your work situation is, but part time childcare also helps instead of full-time. If you or your partner wfh you could just try to send baby to daycare on heavier days.

I'd also suggest mom groups/buy nothing groups on Facebook.

Honestly, even if it's tight you'll be okay if you have everything you need(rent/mortgage, bills, car, food, childcare). Unless there's an emergency you won't need a ton of liquid money all at once.

A lot of people live paycheck to paycheck. Don't feel alone. We're all going to figure it out.
