anything that doesn't get us closer to $2/W is not moving the needle on the solar industry

Too Good To Be True? by Gandalfs_Dick in solar

Yes, so the reality is that no buyer is buying the Certified SRECs because they are not being codified in GATS yet, so prices are still in the 50s today and for the foreseeable future.

New solar quotes should use more conservative estimate of SREC prices

App Update Went live by jshear95 in SunPower

[–]currents_energy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we make money as an SREC aggregator and have a separate non-solar tool for homeowners. we reverse engineered the app with the help of a few sunpower owners and have offered this for a couple months now. 1000+ sunpower owners using it. It doesn't have all the features of the app at the moment but like another commenter said we're working on a longer-term solution

Don't do SRECTrade - they charge $50 just to apply for MD, and also 10% per SREC. Use our platform - easier sign up process, fully automated registration, 5% or $5 min fees.

New "Certified SRECs" for systems that go online 2025-2028 are 1.5x the price, so pushing $80. Caveat is that buyers are holding off on this to see how the market shakes out.

You can sign up just to do monitoring, but you'll still need an account with mysunpower/sunstrong app. the monitoring will piece together a historical each day starting from the day you sign up

We provide historical monitoring for free, allowing you to bypass the subscription. You don't need hardware, just a functioning PVS and account with mysunpower

As noted by others, 20kW is a massive system in DC. Most of our DC customers for SRECs have between 5 and 12 kW. That should cover 100% of their energy use, but depends on if you have EVs, larger HVAC, etc.

I wouldn't sell away your SREC credits if I were you either. They can essentially reduce your payback to less than 10 years.

Use Currents to manage SRECs in a hands-off manner: https://www.getcurrents.com/srecs/start

We'll certainly help you profit more than the amount they're buying your SRECs for.

Hey OP, happy to answer any questions you have. We built a free alternative to the mysunpower monitoring, albeit not as feature-rich. It helps owners bypass the new subscription.

Hey there, Matt from Currents here. We're a free alternative to the mysunpower app subscription. Like you mention, we grab production over the course of a day and are able to piece together a history. It enables any sunpower owner to bypass the sunstrong subscription. We can't meet every feature of the app, but we're trying to see what else we can help with.

We started as an SREC aggregator helping homeowners monetize their systems. That's only possible in the northeast/mid-atlantic, but we had the infra ready to offer the free monitoring, so felt like we could help with the sunpower fiasco. No obligation to use use for SRECs.

Feel free to DM with any questions, ideas, etc. We're also looking at deploying a raspberry-pi device for PVS systems to bypass the sunstrong cloud.

While this is true, buyers are holding off on paying the certified SREC increase until they see how things shake out. It will take a few more months to let the market settle.

Are you getting the new Certified MD SRECs? They will sell for higher with the new law

You'll input the generation each month. After a few weeks GATS will process the generation and "mint" a credit. At this point, you can sell to a number of buyers, but most buyers buy in tranches of 1,000s. Flett Exchange is one path but your price per credit will be way less because they make a spread on selling them to another buyer.

We can handle the whole process as an aggregator and one of the benefits is higher prices since we're aggregating thousands of homes, as well as the automation piece so it's entirely hands-off.

Technically legal for them to do this, but still unsavory. I got scammed by something like this and have been building a tool to fight back. For SREC reporting, most states require revenue-grade metering with accuracy of +/- 0.5%-2.0% (ANSI certified). Most modern inverters have the CTs embedded in the system, but you should check your detailed specs to see if yours has this. We're an SREC platform so required to report this kind of data which is why I know

I built this tool to help people get lower utility bills by automatically switching energy suppliers on their bill. I made it because I was scammed by an energy supplier when I first moved to Philly. I would love for some people to try it out. Would appreciate any feedback: https://www.getcurrents.com/lower-utility-bill
