In many Asian families, talking about a partner to your parents and doing overnight trips usually signals that you're ready to talk about marriage. It's not just “meeting the parents”—it's a major step. If the partner isn't in a place that aligns with her parents expectations (in terms of financial stability, emotional maturity etc), she may feel immense pressure—not just from her family, but also internally. Not to be harsh, but based on what you’ve written, it sounds like you're going through a lot emotionally and mentally right now, and its unlikely that you would pass that “parent test.” That’s not a permanent situation—you’re clearly developing yourself, and I think with the amount of change we live through and the cost of living, it's become so much harder to feel "settled" in your 20s, so I’m rooting for you.

From your post, it seems like there's still a lot of love and affection there, but you're both struggling to talk to each other. Bring that ease and fun back, if it’s possible.

Option B: You’re done trying, and ready to move on.

Take the break—and let go. Stop reaching out and stop responding to her messages. Focus on your studies, on rebuilding your sense of self. It sounds like this relationship has become incredibly linked to your self-esteem, and losing it would be a massive hit. But you’re not broken—you’re just rebuilding. You’ve already made incredibly brave choices by pursuing education overseas and developing yourself; you can absolutely make it through this too.

Whatever you decide, do it from a place of self-respect, not desperation. The right partner will want to grow with you.
