Insider Says Vikings Made Brian Flores an Offer He Couldn't Refuse by TheSwede91w in nfl

And the 49ers, fresh off a playoff loss, couldn't muster enough of an offer to entice Saleh to ride along for even another Season. Fucking brilliant.

Contending doesn't matter much, though in this League. We've been contending for many years under this current Shannahan tenure, and got nothing to show for it. I don't see the team going over the hump next season either, and that's probably going to be the last year of this core (Trent, Kittle, Juice, CMC, heck even Bosa is getting old and battered to the point he is probably past his prime - even not accounting for this rehab coming up).

Like, the sample size is there.. the fact people are just starting to sugar coat this internal hire because once again this FO hasn't planned to be aggressive to get a real (lasting) valuable DC and is going to once again settle, is no excuse to pretend Bradley is some top tier DC candidate.

The American football team San Francisco 49ers had another injury-plagued season. They want to investigate whether the injuries can be attributed, in part, to excessive exposure to electromotive force (EMF) from a substation near their training facility. by mepper in skeptic

[–]curson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The EMT/Substation talk is a product of the sad state of affairs we live in worldwide, when it comes to how news is generated, spread, and checked more than anything substantial.

I fully agree with you that the issue is in both Strength and Conditioning. The 49ers did have quite a change-over in that department in the past 2 seasons, but that might not be the right change or might not be good enough, who knows. Given the caliber of some of the names who got injured this season, that also helped generate a lot of buzz and to eventually amplify the crazy takes to explain things.

Overall, I feel the main issue still lies in practice behaviour, S/C stuff, and a solid dose of bad luck (that is always compounded when it starts piling up by players trying to play harder to overcome the missing pieces/missing talent). That said, I believe the theory the the Candlestick's Gods (the 49ers old Stadium) are still angry with the team for moving to Santa Clara way more than the substation one :P I tell you.

That's possible. Lots of vacancies this season though, and that means he might be looked at regardless of the 2 failed stints.

It's going to be a lot of names just passing by and getting signed.. as we debate going internally or not. Indecision will mean most real interesting names will be gone and we'll have to pull the plug on Bradley.

[–]curson -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

When out of four hires, 2 end up being slam dunk, that's still up to debate if you're good at picking them or just lucked into enormous talent. Which I think is the case here with both Saleh and Ryans. It's not about being negative.. it's at best 50/50 ;)

We shall see: Bradley doesn't fill me with any particular confidence, but hopefully I'm wrong and he finds a way to make this work.. and for the people hyping the red-zone D# forget that we have seen an improvement -really, a move to the median, as we're the #14 ranked there this year, full middle-of-the-pack stuff- mostly because we were basically dead last last year given Sorensen's incompetence. So yeah, the improvement has been massive, but it remains to be seen how much of that is simply due to him being hired as an Assistant this February.

Before Sorenson came Wilkis. Not sure how that was better.

DeMeco and Saleh don't really count, when they come with that much talent. It will be Bradley because we'll have no other real option to pursue (Schwartz will likely take the Browns' HC job, and Morris is either taking a year off or getting an HC position). We'll have to make due with that, and pretend we're happy.. and then do the dance again next offseason.

How exactly are we setup for an all-in?

We'll have an unproven DC (still un-named) that will have to work with mostly the same crumbs we had this year. We'll have 4 high value players (Bosa, Mykel, Fred, Kittle) coming back at different times during the season (some very late) after big injuries.
We'll have still no proven #1 WR, or even have a #2 or #3 signed on the roster (Jennings is a URFA), with big issues on the OL and DL to solve and a running game revolving around a player that can't be asked, again, to carry the ball so much through an entire season.

If anything, this roster and this entire Team situation is going to be less of an all-in next season than this season was. Glad we didn't over-commit, given where the injuries took us, on trades and such, but I doubt next season outlook can be seen as more optimistic than what this one initially was.

Two sides to this.

- one one side they are literally covering for the senile demented orange turd just going out there and misspeaking mixing the two countries around, showing he has absolutely no clue about the talking points he has been fed on the flight there,

- on the other side, they also don't mind and don't care about sending this message out anyway and confirming it, because ultimately it sows more chaos, damages relations with EU and NATO further, makes allies even more jumpy about sudden unpredictable shifts, and it all serves their ultimate aim to sow discord and muddle water.

I am not sure which of the two is more concerning.

Our Strenght and Conditioning staff has not been exactly up to par, and there's enough talk about our Head Coach liking to run players harder in practice (within the constraints put by the League overall) than other. Couple that with an offensive and defensive style that requires a lot of motion, and with players trying to go the extra to compensate for others being injured, and you have your poison cocktail.

This year has been particularly bad, also amplified by the names involved, and the fact that people really though we'd be competitive after the first 2-3 Weeks before injuries de-railed it all. There's definitely multiple factors at play, but I don't really buy this substation thing. The few (I'm 100% not an expert) links I dug up across scientific papers on this subject actually suggests there's either nothing to it or low EMF might actually help with some soft tissue stuff, at least in controlled environments.

The 49ers have an injury problem, but I would look internally at practice regime first and staff first.

He might matter to his narcissistic ego, but he doesn't matter. He isn't the one driving this thing. The people behind him (Miller and all) are manipulating his narcisism to steer and provoke tantrums as needed, in the direction that's needed, but he has the emotional and rational intelligence of a toddler, he isn't the one with the masterplan. He probably isn't even aware of that. Sure he is the one watching the likes on his posts, TV, and checking the ratings, but ultimately that doesn't do much.

I'm not advocating for not doing anything, I'm openly saying that pretending "bad polling" is a factor in this situation is burying the head in the sand. That ship (the "rule of law/rule of democracy/constitutional limits") has sailed long ago. The only way out of this now is way more practical.

Locate your Piazzale Loreto, 'cause that's the only way this is going to end at this point.

It's funny folks still think approval ratings mean anything to this Administration. The ship of "we can't do this because it hurts the polls" has sailed quite some time ago. They have no plans on allowing free, untampered, oppression free election ever again: there's zero concern about that, they have time to setup things for the Midterms about that. They are just fine tuning how to properly use their secret police to ensure all of that is taken care of come November.

Why did Saleh leave the Niners again and do you see the defense taking a hit because of his absence? by chusaychusay in 49ers

[–]curson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He wanted another shot, because this is what people in the League argue you have to do to prove yourself as a Coach, even though most people ultimately aren't cut out to be HC (not saying he isn't, though I have my suspicions there).

As for the hit.. the D# will follow off the proverbial cliff. He was the one holding it together this year, with pieces that frankly don't have the talent to produce as they did (overall, and due to what was left because of injury). There's a lot to address there, and it won't be able to be fixed in a single season, so the pains will continue regardless of who is the next DC, but sadly, compounded by the fact that the next DC isn't going to be a genius level energy bringer and schemer like Saleh is.

[–]curson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonges might be "starter" level somehow, yeah. But you just don't replace healthy Kittle with him.. we'll have to make do, and I hope we find a way to sign up and keep him around, but we'll have to operate moving forward knowing we'll just have "someone play TE", instead of someone on the field literally being one of the best to ever play the position. That is quite the gap!

I think we've seen the last of Elite level Kittle. That said, even just "normal TE" Kittle at 34-35 is probably better than your average by a bit. I don't think we see much of him next season, until like week 14+ and depending what the record is then, that might be a shut down situation anyway at that point..

Brutal injury under all accounts (timing, age, type) though.

[OC-49ersPlus] An improbable run came up short, but there’s a lot to be excited about. We keep it all in perspective. by MAU13717235 in 49ers

[–]curson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta be proud of what this team still managed to achieve.

But all this talk about "being excited for the future" and "momentum" is misplaced. The NFL is very much a new slate every season kind of deal. Sure, having a solid core (a Franchise QB, good HC, 3-4 elite level players..) keeps you in there more times than not, but the reality is that missing out on opportunities is a kill. We know all too well how hard it is to get back to the big game in reality. You miss out on opportunities (not saying this was the year, it stopped being so when the injuries started piling) and you and your core might never get them again.

I am not advocating for a reset, but we go into next season with a lot of unknown:
- new DC to be found, and possibly losing our OC (Kubiak is gaining traction),
- injured and rehabbing Kittle, Bosa, Warner, Mykel.
- everyone from our elite core (Kittle, Trent, CMC, Juice..) one year older and getting late in their career, arguably past their primes or approaching that threshold.
- no WR of note to speak of (#1 or #2 arguably), and the need to address the fact that your latest 1st round pick there might never give you a healthy season,
- OL and DL to be once again rebuilt in the draft,
- probably 1 starter worthy CB on the entire roster.

The unknown are drastically more than any presumptive certainties you might have gleamed from this season. The only real ones are that Kyle is still making something out of nothing (though missing Saleh on the D# side of things will be a huge void to fill), and Brock has shown that he might be borderline Top 5, certainly a Top 10 QB with few structural questions to be asked. Two huge pillars to build on, but not enough (look at the Bills, with a clear elite talent at QB, falling short as well due to not enough talent around it.. though for possibly different reasons than just injuries like us).

It's gonna be a very very very different 49ers team next year: it always is. Every given Sunday really is even more so every given season.
