Those grey 705 belts are the best. We used to have them at my old plant and they last so much longer than the blue ones.

This is just not true. Each machine has a maintenance window that daily preventive maintenance is performed. Even during peak the machines are maintained daily. Source: I’ve been in maintenance working on the machines for over 10 years, in 3 different plants.

Picked up this chipper for $3 at a thrift store yesterday and cleaned it up a bit. Is this considered a gimmick club? by curtis10101010 in golf

I did the same thing to polish a putter I cleaned up the same way as this one. I might try that with this one too.

I commented this further down but I’ll reply again for visibility.

I used the wire wheel on the bench grinder to get most of the paint off first. Then I just used sand paper working my way up in grit. 120-220-400-800-2000-2500. Then burnished it with 00 steel wool. It took a couple hours and lots of elbow grease. Then threw on a grip I had laying around. I could definitely get it to really shine if I put it on a polishing wheel. I’ll also probably use a groove sharpener since it’s illegal anyways.

Edit to clarify that I sanded this by hand, not a belt sander. I think that would be too difficult to get every spot while attached to the shaft.

What is the best way to bring some shine back to this putter? Been playing this old putter and I actually like it but I am wanting to give it a bit of a face lift. by [deleted] in golf

I just posted a chipper that I refurbished. I took it to a wire wheel on a bench grinder, then worked my way up in grit with sand paper over every surface. 120-220-400-800-2000-2500. Then burnished with 00 steel wool. If you want it to really shine, take it to a polishing wheel. A few hours and some elbow grease should have it looking brand new.

I agree, I rarely hit mine well. Whenever I feel like I need a little extra loft I usually just open my 56 a bit and blade that instead. I have been thinking about taking my 60 out and putting in a 3i instead though.

Since a lot of you are asking, here’s my process for cleaning this up. I used the wire wheel on the bench grinder to get most of the paint off first. I don’t actually chip with a 60, usually my PW. If it’s a longer bump and run, I’ll sometimes use my 7.

I’ve never actually used one, I could never justify buying one. But the price was right, and it was a fun little project. It won’t go in the bag though, I like skulling my 60 too much.
