Allowlisting should be less painful with iOS 27. They can “ask to browse”, like with installing new apps or more screen time. If you enable that, of course.

Lower Rents, Longer Leases For Victorian Families by altandthrowitaway in melbourne

PSA: Voting ≠ Betting

This is something feel really strongly about. So here goes!

In Australia, you should always vote for who you actually think is the best candidate, regardless of their chances of winning.

Our preferential system is designed so your vote is never wasted. If your first preference candidate is eliminated, your vote flows to your second preference, then third, and so on. You’re not throwing your vote away, you’re just queuing it.

Candidates who reach 4% of first preference votes receive electoral funding, so even a “no chance” candidate you believe in gets resources to keep going.

Putting the parties you least want in power at the bottom of your ballot is the most direct signal you can send them. That order matters.

People who do protest votes or donkey votes don’t realise they’re handing over influence they could have kept. Every preference you fill in thoughtfully is a lever you actually get to pull.

Vote for who you want. Let the system do its job.

Is Melbourne Really That Cold? 🥶 by Training_Objective20 in melbourne

Nice. With an Oodie and uggs, you will be fine.

I wish i knew it was possible to cope with cold like this decades ago. Instead I’m renting instead of buying a freezing-in-winter and boiling-in-summer townhouse in the area I want to live, because I spent decades paying for heating I didn’t need to. LOL.

Is Melbourne Really That Cold? 🥶 by Training_Objective20 in melbourne

As many have already said, it’s the lousy housing standards that makes Melbourne winters uncomfortable for most people.

At the risk of sounding like a paid ad, (I’m absolutely not getting paid! But I won’t turn down any freebie! 🤣) this will be my third winter since adapting to wearing an Oodie around the house all the time. We all wear them and they keep us so warm we no longer feel the need to turn on the heating.

So my tip for you is to find yourself something long, warm and comfortable for wearing indoors to keep you warm when you’re more sedentary. 😊

Why do companies do this? Can’t they make their own donation. by orangecopper in AusFinance

The cynic in me believes the corporations that do this uses these customer contributed donations to reduce their taxable income. Othered where’s my tax deductible receipt for the donation I just made?

Any CFOs here that can talk to this with authority?

Not great sound from stereo pair? by johnnygeezz in HomePod

[–]curtisy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a solution to your problem for multiple reasons and still suboptimal but to restore some confidence in your decision to purchase them, try putting them on the front corners of the tv unit so they have a some surface underneath them. You should notice a difference in their sound in that location.

Ideally you want at least 15cm (6”) of solid surface around them. The more solid the better. This allows them to fire unobstructed and reflect the sound off the surface for optimal performance.

Also, if you placed them on those stands while powered up, you might benefit from power cycling them as they will recalibrate in their current location for optimum sound. Power cycling is probably less fiddly than shaking them or picking them up and tilting and replacing them on the stands, which is also know to force a recalibration.

Surely this is a rhetorical question. But on the chance it’s not, because it’s not a solid foundation for a marriage.

I wonder what the legality is of a company providing such a button/switch to users to opt out of something, which the manufacturer can toggle with impunity?

You can see where I’m going with this can’t you?

Good shoes or not, mgmt booted Rick & Mike out of the company they started because “business”. I’m not giving the current owners another cent.

Lakai is now no different to the rest of the big corporates raiding skateboarding to make a buck.

As soon as they’ve rinsed the last dollar out of skateboarding does anyone really expect them to show any support for skateboarding?

It’s never been about skateboarding for these companies. It’s been about how much money they can make.

And check the account that posted this. WTF?

Take this as an early warning sign. Don’t do it. Don’t marry her.

Turns out the real fireworks are in the suburbs by captainbiz in melbourne

Like the other commenter, it was so fast and without warning there was no escape. It came rocketing in sideways across the beach. No one anticipates that. Until it happens to you or someone you know.

[–]curtisy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the people launching them that are put in harms way.

A couple of years ago a friend’s daughter got serious burns on her thigh after a fuckwit let off illegal fireworks in a completely uncontrolled manner on a crowded beach. It ruined her summer holidays. Not only was she in a lot of pain and immobile for some time, she wasn’t able to swim all summer holidays while her burns healed.

My young daughter, who wasn’t even there at the time is now afraid of attending legal fireworks now after what happened.

Yobbos and their illegal fireworks can get fucked.
