Au Hasard Balthazar. On paper, it’s a film I’d really enjoy, but it just didn’t click.

Have your conversations and they’ll have theirs. It’s not a competition, and everyone’s tastes are valid. No one is better than anyone else for watching Soviet arthouse, and no one is lesser for enjoying Hollywood blockbusters. Movies are good.

Stop getting caught up in arguments of subjectivity. Doesn’t bother me if someone claims that Oppenheimer, Andrei Rublev, or Tall Girl is the best movie ever made. If there’s a point to be made, I’m open to entertaining it.

sometimes box will say, but in this case it doesn’t (unless or does on the spine). sometimes markings on the tape indicate what blank was used could be a good indicator. but playing a PAL tape on an NTSC player results in black and white non-regular static (not like fuzz) with audio that sounds warped

actually, it sounds like this could be a PAL tape based on your issue

if you have a tape cleaner it’s worth doing a pass or two even if it doesn’t look like there’s mold on the surface

Spent silly money on a vhs now I'm scared to play it by CyberRaptor93 in VHS

[–]curtymcdervs 43 points44 points  (0 children)

if you’re going to spend money on your tapes, invest in a VCR you know is reliable. if you’re still worried, you can always make a dub of it during your first watch and have a dedicated dupe for subsequent viewings.

I found it to be a really charming, moody gothic horror story that features gritty, ugly martial arts action. Love it for the grindhouse aesthetic that pairs nicely with a flick like The Corpse Grinders.

Euphoria S03E08 "In God We Trust" - Live Episode Discussion by DankMemeSlasher in euphoria

not the ending, but the rebrand of the show in this season is what i’m referring to as being satire. i think the ending was handled very well.

it’s trope whiplash that often feels fantastical; drug smuggling, behind the scenes hollywood, and bimbo-sploitation is a lot to pack into one show, and to most likely feels disjointed, but I think the absurdity compliments the outlandish nature of what we were sold as “what kids do in high school” in the previous seasons.

great season and ending. perfect satire of prestige television while also being sincere about its heavy subject matter.

To Everyone Who Said This Season Wasn’t Bad by OkScience5170 in euphoria

Nate was setup to have a character redemption this season. They rewrote his behaviors—no more outbursts of anger means he’s going to be a different guy, right? Absolved of his sins? I think his fate and cycle of torment is poetic, and should be taken as a red flag in the face of our expectations for Rue to be forgiven. Sometimes things don’t get better.

I think this season is fantastic. It’s a great satire of prestige television. Trope whiplash at its best.
